14th Region Week 8 Review

Featured Replies

1) Hazard (16-3): The Bulldogs come up short in the All "A" State Tournament at EKU McBrayer Arena. Hazard traveled to Richmond this past week to participate in the All "A" State Tournament. The Bulldogs got things started off with a thrilling 42-39 win over Louisville Collegiate thanks to a buzzer beating 3. Hazard would move on to play Paintsville in the quarter-final and they wouldn't have a problem with the Tigers as they would roll past Paintsville 48-39. Hazard would move on to face St. Henry in the semi-finals of the All "A". This was a case of "tale of two halves" Hazard went toe to toe with St. Henry and even had a double digit lead in the first half but second half was all St. Henry as they would outlast the Bulldogs 55-41 to move on to the championship game of the All "A" state tournament. Hazard will now get ready for this week's games. 1/28 at Breathitt County, 1/31 vs. Perry County Central, 2/1 at Leslie County.

2) Knott County Central (16-4): The Patriots are playing great ball since the first 4 games of the season. The Patriots started the season off 2-2 and have since gone 14-2 including the three wins last week, defeating Floyd Central 59-54, Letcher County Central 65-56 and Belfry 68-54. Can the Patriots keep the momentum up this week's slate of games? 1/30 vs. Powell County, 2/1 vs. Perry County Central.

3) Wolfe County (13-5): January hasn't been too kind to the Wolves as they have lost 3 of they're last 5 games including the split ones they had last week. Defeating Breathitt County 75-74 in a thriller after falling 69-68 to Perry County Central. Can the Wolves get back on track with next week's games? 1/28 at Estill County, 1/31 vs. Jackson City.

4) Estill County (13-5): The Engineers picked up they'er third straight win and second straight district win last week when they defeated Owsley County 68-53. Two of they're games was cancelled due to illness in the school. Estill County will host Wellspring Guardians (Richmond) Home School on Monday, Wolfe County on Tuesday and will travel to both Buckhorn on Friday for Scott Blank Classic and Fleming County on Saturday.

5) Perry County Central (7-13): After a rough start to the season and mid-way through the season but have since started getting back on track after two big wins last week defeating Wolfe County 69-68 and Cumberland Home School (Corbin) 81-27. Tough week for the Commodores as they will host Buckhorn on Monday, travel to Perry County Central on Friday and Knott County Central on Saturday.

6) Cordia (8-12): Cordia didn't play last week and will return to action on 1/30 when they host Breathitt County, a team they defeated 74-68 earlier in the season. Cordia is riding a 2 game losing streak and have lost 3 of they're last 4 games.

7) Buckhorn (8-11): The Wildcats picked up two big wins last week to help stop the bleeding. Buckhorn picked up a big victory over former Coach John Noble and his Breathitt County Bobcats 72-61 and defeated Leslie County 81-72 in overtime. This is going to be a very tough week for the Wildcats. 1/27 at Perry County Central, 1/285 at Owsley County, 1/31 vs. Estill County (Scott Blank Classic), 2/1 vs. Pike County Central (Scott Blank Classic).

8) Breathitt County (7-11): Struggles continue for Coach Noble and the Bobcats as they have now lost 3 straight and 4 of they're last 6 games. Can Breathitt County re-group and get back on track this week or will the slide continue? 1/28 vs. Hazard, 1/30 at Cordia, 2/1 vs. Prestonsburg (at Buckhorn Scott Blank Classic).

9) Owsley County (8-8): After a three game win streak, the Owls have countered with a 2 game losing streak, both to district foes, Estill County 68-53 and Powell County 67-52. With both losses, the Owls will now have the 3 seed in the district tournament as they have lost the head to head tiebreaker to Powell County.
