nWo Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 I'm watching Wednesday afternoon into the evening hours for the possibility of scattered thunderstorms that could be strong to marginally severe. This is for portions of southern/southeastern Kentucky. The timing, for now, is later afternoon into the early evening hours. I'm only posting the GFS today because it is past the NAM range for now. I will post an update later today when Wednesday is in range for the NAM model
nWo Posted January 12, 2020 Author Posted January 12, 2020 The NAM is coming in pretty close to what the GFS is showing. The conditions could be favorable for the formation of strong to marginally severe storms Wednesday. I will post a piece of more detailed information in the morning.
nWo Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 Portions of southern and southeast Kentucky are under a Category 1 Marginal Risk Area for scattered strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon into the early evening hours. Possible marginally severe thunderstorms with hail and strong winds will be possible. A cold front will move quickly east-southeastward across the mid-Mississippi Valley. Ahead of the front, a moist airmass will be in place across most of Kentucky. As surface temperatures warm in the early afternoon, scattered storms may develop along the front as well. Conditions should be sufficient for an isolated severe threat. Hail and a few damaging wind gusts can be expected. As of now the best time for these possible storms look to be between 4-10 pm EST. Check back for an update later today.
nWo Posted January 15, 2020 Author Posted January 15, 2020 The Storm Prediction Center has dropped the Marginal Risk Area for Kentucky. There is still a chance for isolated storms some of which could be marginally severe. The timing for these possible storms is late afternoon into the evening hours.
