South Oldham vs North Bullitt Predictions/Updates

Featured Replies

I'll try to post updates as possible during this mid-day game.

Saturday 1/4/2020

Tip-off: 12 noon

Pregame show: 11:30 am The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN (video broadcast)

South Oldham (8-4) vs. North Bullitt (5-8)

South comes into the game on a roller-coaster; the Lady Dragons have gone 3-2 over their last five games, without winning or losing two in a row during that time. South is showing a strong offense this year; in 8 of their games, they've eclipsed the 60 point mark so far. That seems to be the secret sauce - South is 8-0 when scoring 60 points or more; 0-4 when scoring fewer than 60.

South has three players in double figures on a balanced team; Brynna Blackburn and Skyler Sahatjian both average 10.8 ppg, but both are explosive and capable of 30 point outings. Freshman Ella Morrison is averaging 10 ppg.

The three are getting solid support from Meagan Chen (7.2 ppg), Makalia Bowlden (6.3 ppg), Sophia Kirtland (6.1 ppg), and Sierre Kemelgor (5.9 ppg).

Shooting hasn't quite been as good as South expected, but will likely improve in the second 2/3 of the season. SOHS is hitting 41.4% of their shots and only 59.3% at the line.

But South is hitting nearly 8 threes a game, and averaging over 31 rebounds a contest, with three players averaging over 5 rebounds a game, led by Kemelgor with 5.8. In addition, Blackburn is averaging 4.2 boards.

Despite the hot start, South has yet to win more than two games in a row. They'd like to win their second game in a row by beating North Bullitt, a former 8th Region rival who they haven't played since 2/8/14, when the Lady Dragons won a close one, 60-57.

The two haven't played a lot recently; South has won the last three meetings. North Bullitt's last win in the series came on 12/4/2007, when the Lady Eagles won, 65-51.

The Lady Eagles are trying to recapture the moxie of the 2017-18 district 23 championship squad that finished as the 6th Region runner-ups.

After a 16-16 campaign last year, the Lady Eagles have experienced a "one step forward and two steps back" year so far in 2019-20, and they come in off a 50-24 loss to Happy Valley (TN) in the Carolina Invitational.

NB is looking for a signature victory to get their season jump-started, and a win on the road over South might do the trick. NB is led by Cambria Wulf at 13 ppg; she is the only Lady Eagle averaging in double digits so far this year, but Madelyn Curtsinger is close to double figures at 8.8 ppg. Curtsinger has a shot at averaging a double-double this year, as she leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 a contest.

Shooting is a bit of a concern for North; the Lady Eagles are hitting just 36.7% from the field, and only 60% at the line.

However, NB has the ability to shoot well. In the last game where stats were posted - a 68-59 loss to Presentation - North Bullitt hit 11 of 21 threes for 52.4% and 14 of 18 at the line for 77.8%. Four players reached double figures in that game, led by Wulf's 12.

Tipoff is at 12 noon. Live video coverage begins with a pregame show at 11:30 am on The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN
