Glasgow 49 Warren Central 48

The crazy 4th Region continues to rear its head in the first half of December as the Scotties pull the upset on the Dragons tonight in dramatic fashion. Glasgow led from literally the first second, going up 2-0 on administrative technical free throws before the clock even started. They did not trail for a single second of the first three quarters, and led by as many as 15 in the third. But Central, plagued by poor shooting all night, finally found the touch for a stretch, and grabbed a three point lead at 46-43 with 5:52 left. They would score only two points the rest of the way. Glasgow was faring little better, and still trailed 48-47 with 30 seconds left when Tegra Muleka went to the line for a 1 and 1 for Central. he missed the front end, and Glasgow held for the (seemingly) final shot. Nik Sorrell worked his way to the left side of the basket, and after picking up his dribble, worked through a pair of defenders to lay it in with 4.8 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Dre Boyd took the inbound pass and drove the length of the court, laying up a finger roll that simply died on the front of the rim, and fell off the wrong way. And with that, Glasgow snapped a 15 game losing streak to Warren Central, won at Central for the first time since 1985, and let the 4th Region without a single unbeaten team after just 15 days of play.

Central entered the game averaging 12 three pointers made per game and shooting 46% from behind the arc. They bottomed out into a 5/17 effort. That alone would not have doomed them, but they also went 13/37 from two and crucially, 5/14 from the line. Glasgow played tough man to man defense as opposed to the zones that have greeted Central so far, so the looks didn't come easy for the Dragons.

Depending on what happens with Bowling Green this week, the loss likely knocks Central from their top spot in the region ranks, and may cost them their spot in the BGP rankings as well. For Glasgow, it's a strong rebound from a start that saw them lose to Central's 14th District rivals Greenwood and Bowling Green, and struggle in games against Monroe County and Russell County. They have experienced frustration at Central's hands in the last two postseasons, so this was likely quite cathartic. Until Bowling Green loses to a region team we can't quite declare this totally wide open, but honestly, this is as tight as I have seen the 4th Region since probably 2008.
