Next potential Winter Weather maker

Featured Replies

I'm keeping an eye on a system that potentially could affect the Ohio Valley region Sunday afternoon into the day on Monday. I just want to show everyone what I'm seeing. It appears that all the different types of winter weather could be on the table. Rain, freezing rain, snow. Three of the models are showing something brewing. The time period covered by all three Ohio Valley simulations is from 1 pm EST Sunday to 1 pm EST Monday.

I will be monitoring the data and post updates when the information warrants it.

There is still a slight chance some may see some light snow accumulations Sunday evening. Along with some possible freezing rain. They both shouldn't last long as the temperature should rise during the night on Sunday and change the precipitation over to all rain by Monday morning. The rain will be heavy at times on Monday. The precipitation should be ending early on Tuesday. I will be posting more on the possible snow accumulations along with rainfall totals as we get closer to the end of the weekend. At this point in time, any possible snow accumulations look to be confined to north of I-64.

The following radars cover the time period from 1 pm EST Sunday to 1 pm EST on Monday.

It continues to look like parts of Northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati area may get some wintry precipitation Sunday night into early Monday morning. Any possible snow accumulations don't look to stay on the ground long. The temperature will rise enough after the first wave of precipitation passes through that the next round later on Monday will be all rain. There is a possibility of this rain producing some snow activity Monday night.

The following radar simulations are from 1 pm EST Sunday afternoon till 6 am EST Monday morning.

The NAM has the track a little further to the north than the GFS. So there is still a little uncertainty about any possible snow accumulations.

The wintry precipitation forecast for Sunday evening into the early morning hours on Monday looks to be confined to the north of I-64. The period I'm covering tonight is from 7 pm EST Sunday to 7 am EST Monday. First, let us take a look at what the GFS is showing. It shows the snow moving into the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area around 7 pm EST. It is coming in a little colder than the NAM show it is showing more snow than freezing rain accumulations before the precipitation turns over to all rain before it moves out of the area. It also has the snowfield track a little bit further north than the NAM.

Now for the NAM. It is showing a more southerly track than the GFS. Also, it is more robust with the snow and freezing rain accumulations. One thing that the NAM does is it shows more detail than the GFS because it is there are only three hours between frames where the GFS uses six hours between frames.
