Front Runners

Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic)

Round 1: Allen guided the Knights past Bourbon County, 43-23, with 244 yards of total offense and five touchdowns - three passing, two rushing. Attention quickly shifts to Round 2 at Boyle County. For the future Kentucky Wildcat, all roads lead through Danville. His status as one of the state's best quarterback prospects in recent memory has long been secured, but the Rebels have proven themselves a persistent barrier between him and a deep playoff run. For all of his accolades, he has yet to advance beyond a region final. This Friday will be his last chance.

Season to date: 234/341 for 3,456 yards and 37 TDs/6 ints. - 517 yards rushing/12 TDs

Reed Lanter (QB, Boyle County)

Round 1: Boyle wasted little time in dispatching Anderson County, 64-14. Lanter was a crisp 9/12 for 154 yards and three touchdowns. A final duel with the guy above awaits this Friday. He win the head to head battle on October 11th with nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns. Can he duplicate that performance? Perhaps a better question is, will he have to?

Season to date: 128/178 for 2,295 yards and 29 TDs/2 int.

Michael Mayer (TE/LB, Covington Catholic)

Round 1: One catch for forty yards, a rushing touchdown, seven tackles (2 TFL), and two forced fumbles - It might not have been his greatest performance, but when your guys are that much better than the other guys (in this case, Cooper), a dominant individual showing isn't a necessity. Mayer was robbed of one last dance with Highlands, but the thieves will have to do. Conner posed no threat to CovCath a couple of weeks ago, with Mayer serving as a two-way force with 148 yards and two touchdowns receiving, plus an interception.

Season to date: 34 catches for 716 yards and 11 TDs - 5 carries for 37 yards and 2 TDs - 73 tackles/1.5 sacks/3 int./1 pick-six/5 forced fumbles

Reese Smith (WR/S, Boyle County)

Round 1: Smith was held out of Boyle's game against Anderson County. We can only assume it was a precautionary measure stemming from an injury suffered a couple of weeks ago. His status for this week against Lexington Catholic is unknown, but he's famously played through injuries before, so another week off would be a big surprise. Plus, it's LexCath, and you know he'd love one last chance to hang another L on Beau Allen and the Knights.

Season to date: 37 catches for 1,055 yards and 14 touchdowns - 3 rushing TDs - 20 tackles/4 ints.

Locks

Malachi Corley (RB/WR/DB, Campbellsville)

Round 1: Corley, after missing three games this season due to injury, suited up for Campbellsville one last time against Bethlehem. He went out on his shield, catching four balls for 92 yards and a touchdown, plus nine tackles and a couple of sacks, but it wasn't enough, as the Eagles fell to Bethlehem in overtime, 36-28.

Season to date: 48 rushes for 541 yards and 10 TDs - 25 catches for 698 yards and 10 TDs - 63 tackles/3 sacks/4 forced fumble - 1 punt return touchdown

Izayah Cummings (WR, Male)

Round 1: Cummings made the most of a short night, catching three passes for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Male's 43-0 victory over Southern. Up next is a Fern Creek squad that he worked for a career best twelve catches and 176 yards. He put on a route running clinic that night and took full advantage of his height and length, high pointing a few first down grabs.

Season to date: 50 catches for 962 yards and 11 TDs

Franklin Hayes (WR, McCracken County)

Round 1: McCracken turned in one of last Friday's more jaw dropping results with a 57-0 rout of Apollo. Hayes played a big part in the night's festivities, catching two more touchdown passes, drawing him closer to the single season state record. He stands two shy of tying the current mark of 28.

Season to date: 62 catches for 1,501 yards and 26 TDs

Jeriah Hightower (RB, Madisonville-North Hopkins)

Round 1: After barreling his way for 300 yards against Logan County in the regular season, Hightower struggled to find running room against the Cougars on Friday. He only managed to grind out a season low 88 yards on 26 carries - by far a season worst 3.4 ypc - but scored a pair of pivotal touchdowns in the Maroons' 35-28 win to advance to the district championship game against Hopkinsville.

Season to date: 259 rushes for 2,319 yards and 25 TDs

Octavious Oxendine (DT, North Hardin)

Round 1: The Trojans' top rated (6A) scoring defense clamped down on Barren County, shutting them out and allowing just 39 yards of offense. Oxendine led the way with a team high nine tackles, including a handful behind the line of scrimmage.

Season to date: 52 tackles/12 TFL/12.5 sacks

Walker Parks (OT/DL, Frederick Douglass)

Round 1: With Great Crossing already overmatched before the opening kick, Parks was able to focus his energy strictly on the offensive side of the ball. The Broncos rushed for 356 yards on nearly ten yards a pop behind a Parks led o-line. His two-way presence will almost certainly be a requirement this week, as Douglass welcomes "the team from up north" for what should be a fierce battle.

Season to date: 27 tackles/9.5 TFL/5.5 sacks - The Broncos are averaging 8.5 yards per carry and have only allowed one sack this season.

Jayden Stinson (QB, Mayfield)

Round 1: Stinson was a tidy 9/13 for 250 yards and four touchdowns in Mayfield's 56-13 thrashing of Fort Campbell. Up next is a last go-round with long time rival Murray. For his career, Stinson is 45/69 for 934 yards with 10 TDs/1 int. against the Tigers in four games, all Mayfield wins.

Season to date: 141/217 for 2,817 yards and 37 TDs/9 ints.

On The Bubble

Jayden Barnhardt (QB, Lexington Christian Academy)

Round 1: Barnhardt's dual threat ability was on display against Washington County. He threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns, while contributing an additional 95 yards with his legs. His chemistry with receiver Dearious Smith continues to befuddle opponents. They hooked up ten times for 153 yards against the Commanders and 29 times for 511 yards and 8 TDs over their last three games.

Season to date: 170/280 for 2,682 yards and 31 TDs/9 ints. - 536 rushing yards and 8 TDs

Charles Collins (RB/DB, Breathitt County)

Round 1: Collins' previous 15.8 yard per carry average will go up slightly, following his 71 yards on just three rushes against Knott County Central. Two of his three rushes found paydirt in Breathitt's 48-6 win.

Season to date: 80 rushes for 1,289 yards and 29 TDs - one kickoff return TD - 41 tackles/1 sack

Drew Hartz (QB, Owensboro Catholic)

Round 1: Hartz threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns in a 46-22 win over Todd County Central. Those four scoring tosses pushed him past 50, making him the fourteenth quarterback in state history to reach that mark in a season. The last to throw 50 or more in a year was former Owensboro Catholic QB Ray Zuberer in 2014. The Aces have a history of slingin' the ball around the field.

Season to date: 221/313 for 3,874 yards and 53 TDs/4 ints.

Jackson Hensley (WR, Pikeville)

Round 1: Pikeville received a bye into the second round, where they'll host Hazard this Friday.

Season to date: 35 catches for 508 yards and 8 TDs - 54 tackles/2 int./1 fumble return TD - 1 kickoff return TD

Demetri Scott (DE/TE, DeSales)

Round 1: If a player finishes his career with 23 sacks, he's had an outstanding 2-4 year run. But 23 in one season? That's the stuff of legend, and Scott is putting together a season for the ages. He spent a good portion of last Friday night in Western Hills' backfield, collecting a handful of sacks and generally wreaking havoc on the Wolverines' game plan.

Season to date: 62 tackles/22 TFL/23 sacks - 12 receptions for 228 yards and 4 TDs
