November 11, 20196 yr First, let me say that all three models now are showing most of Kentucky getting some snow accumulations Monday into early Tuesday morning. The following is what the models are showing as snow accumulations. The Euro The GFS The NAM For my 1st call for snow, I'm going with 1-2 inches over most of Kentucky. Southeast Kentucky may see a higher accumulation of 2-4 inches. My thinking is the NAM is overdoing it some as it did last week. I will up As of tonight, there appears to be less a chance for freezing rain accumulations. That is the reason for the possibility of more snow accumulations. I will post a more detailed update in the morning.
November 11, 20196 yr Author Snow accumulations are likely for most if not all of Kentucky late Monday afternoon into early morning hours on Tuesday. One of the stories for today is that the high temps for today may reach the low to mid-60s before the cold front starts passing through Kentucky. The rain associated with the cold front will transition to a brief period of freezing rain before changing over to all snow. Some light freezing rain accumulations may be possible in southeast Kentucky. The following radars are from the three weather models I use. The time period is from 1 pm EST Monday afternoon to 7 am EST Tuesday morning. You may notice a size difference in the models. I had to decrease the size in order to be able to post them. First the Euro The GFS The NAM The following temperature maps show the cold front as it transverse across Kentucky. They are for the same time period as the radars. The Euro The GFS The NAM The morning lows look to be around the lows look to be in the low to mid-20s from around the I-75 corridor eastward. West of the look for temperatures to range from the mid to high teens. The wind chill will make it seem much colder. West of I-75 wind chills could be in the single digits. East of I-75 could see wind chills from the low to mid-teens. Now for my second call for snow. I'm looking for a general 1 to 2 inches of snow for most of Kentucky. Sections of Eastern Kentucky could receive 2-4 inches. All of the models, while there are some small differences, are pretty much in agreement. The Euro The GFS The NAM I will try to update around mid-morning if possible. In any case, any precipitation will more than likely cause some slick conditions for the morning commute on Tuesday.
