Bishop Brossart 21 Lexington Sayre 3

Featured Replies

Mustangs win their first game at their new home, defeating Lexington Sayre 21-3.

Brossart drew first blood with 5:13 to play in the first quarter, as we finished off an 80 yard drive when Junior Trevor Schadler scored his first of two touchdowns on the night. The PAT was good and the Mustangs led 7-0, which would be the halftime score, as Brossart advanced to the 3 yard line just before the half when turning the ball over on downs.

Again neither team scored in the third quarter, BUT began a 91 drive that Sophomore Jacob Leicht would close out early in the fourth quarter on a 19 yard scamper, making it 14-0 with the PAT and 10:42 remaining in the game.

The Mustangs would score the incing-on-the-cake touchdown with 4:05 remaining as Trevor Schadler scored his second TD of the night, on an 8 yard run. Sophomore place kicker Andrew Schwartz then knocked home his third consecutive PAT and the Mustangs led 21-0.

Sayre got on the scoreboard late in the game with a 21 yard Field Goal by Blue-Chip kicker, Troy Adkins. I hope this kid is getting college looks. He is 14 of 15 on PATs on the season, and was not challenged by the short-range field-goal.

Brossart recognized six seniors and their senior manager, Justin Reckner, who was inserted into the game in the closing minutes of the game on two occasions as a wide receiver.

Our Mustangs, now 5-4, go to Pendleton County next Friday night to round out the regular season, while the Sayre Spartans will finish out their season at home with Pineville.
