Last week of the season: Big Games in the 8th Region

Recommended Posts

Region 8

Monday, 2/11 Trimble County versus Gallatin County - on paper, an easy Gallatin win. But Trimble has won 6 of their last 8 to improve to 12-12. This is an opportunity for the Raiders to prove that they can compete with the contenders in their last home game of the season.

Tuesday, 2/12 Walton-Verona at South Oldham - South has had Walton's number the last couple of years due to their style of play. Perhaps THE game of the week in the 8th as it features two 8th region teams that are widely considered to be region contenders, and it also puts on display two teams with dramatically different styles of play. Walton-Verona leads the region in scoring defense; South leads the region (and the state) in scoring offense. Something has to give.

Tuesday, 2/12 Simon Kenton vs. Covington Catholic - SK needs to get back on the winning track; they have a tough route to get there against the defending state champs.

Tuesday, 2/12 Collins at North Oldham - Collins appears to be back in form. First year coach David Levitch will lead a band of Mustangs that seek to show they can play with the big boys.

Thursday, 2/14 Carroll County at Walton-Verona - a litmus test for Carroll. The Panthers are vastly improved over last year, and their star, Wyatt Supplee (23 ppg) is back. Last chance for the Panthers to prove that they are more than a much-improved, but still mid-level team.

2/11, 2/12, 2/15 - Williamstown vs. Bellevue, at Owen County, vs. Menifee County - win all three and the Demons finish the season with 10 wins, a big step up after last year's disastrous 2-win compaign. All three games are winnable.
