Featured Replies

The football program and the school did a awesome thing this afternoon to honor 7 of their seniors who are going on to continue their football careers at the next level. They scheduled an event at the school with all of the colleges in attendance to host their National Signing Day. The school also printed up 20 tickets per player to share with their friends classmates to attend the ceremony in the schools auditorium. Below is the link from the football teams Twitter and the the schools web site.

Frederick Douglass Football hosts National Signing Day for 7 outgoing seniors

Lexington, KY – Frederick Douglass Football will host its National Signing Day in the Frederick Douglass High School Auditorium, 2000 Winchester Road, on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 2:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. Everyone is asked to enter through the Winchester Road entrance.

In only its second season, Douglass Football will celebrate seven of 18 senior players who have scholarship offers to play college football. An eighth player, Haiden Hunt, signed with Gardner-Webb University to play college baseball.

“National Signing Day is an exciting day for players,” said Brian Landis, head coach, Frederick Douglass Football. “Having half of your senior class commit to play at the next level is a coach’s dream. I could not be prouder of these kids and their performance on and off the field.”

Players and their college commitments include: Jayshaun Coffman, defensive lineman, University of Marshall; DaMarco Fishback, running back, Highland Community College (Highland, KS); Tre’Jwan Scott, offensive lineman, University of Pikeville; Gabe Hillyard, middle linebacker, Georgetown College; Micah Lowe, wide receiver, Notre Dame College (South Euclid, OH); Jeff Black, offensive lineman, University of Pikeville; Cam Jones, quarterback, University of Cincinnati.

2018 Season statistics for players signing their letter of intent include:

Jeff Black – #74 OL | 11 games – 15 pancakes

Jayshaun Coffman – #55 DL | 11 games – 59 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 safety

DaMarco Fishback – #6 RB | 12 games – 137 rushing attempts, 1,296 rushing yards, 22 rushing touchdowns, 19 receptions, 253 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns, 162 all-purpose points, class 6A player of the year, district 7 (6A) player of the year, 1st team all-city

Gabe Hillyard – #4 LB | 12 games – 69 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, team leader of tackles

Cam Jones – #14 QB | 12 games – 145/199 completions/attempts, 31 touchdown passes, 2,714 yards passing, 5 interceptions, 1st team all-city, all-USA Kentucky football team

Tre’Jwan Scott – #51/89 OL/DL/TE – 12 games – 25 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 9 pancakes, two 2-point conversions, 2nd team all-city

Since opening its doors in 2017, Douglass Football has yet to be defeated by another Lexington high school, holding the title of City Champion. The team went 10–0 during regular season play and was Class 6A District Champion in 2018.

National Signing Day is the day when athletes who have verbal offers from colleges make their athletic scholarships official by signing their National Letter of Intent. Students who sign have committed to one year at the college or university, ending their student-athlete recruiting journey.
