Wet week ahead(updated Monday evening 2/19/18)

Featured Replies

After the rain ends today we will have a short spell before the rain returns Monday morning. We will have a couple of chances at more rain both on Monday then on Tuesday evening into the day on Wednesday. It seems like the WKY will receive the heaviest rainfall totals. 2-3 inches will be possible with the majority of that falling Tuesday afternoon/evening into the day on Wednesday. WKY should also be on the lookout for thunderstorms Tuesday/Wednesday. Some which could be strong and produce heavy downpours. Nothing looks to be severe at this time.

These possible thunderstorms could progress eastward across the state on Wednesday.

The following is the latest GFS rainfall accumulation map. It is from this morning until around 1 pm EST on Wednesday.

With the ground already being saturated look for Flash Flood watches and warnings to continue. Also, new ones could be issued for WKY.

Take care and I will post updates as we go into next week.

We all should see a break in the rain on Tuesday. Look for cloudy skies with temps in the low to mid-70s across the entire state. If there are some breaks in the cloud cover some could reach from the mid to upper 70s and maybe even 80.

Enjoy it while you can for rain will be moving into WKY by early Wednesday morning and spread across the state during the day on Wednesday. The rain looks to continue until Thursday afternoon as it exits SEKY. The rainfall accumulations will be the heaviest for those in WKY. Totals of 2-5 inches will be possible northwest of a line from about Fulton to Owensboro. Most of the rest of the state could get 1-2 inches.

Sunday evening update:

The entire state will see rain off and on all the way through next Sunday afternoon. Flash flood watches and warnings should be issued as we go through the week. Some of those along the Ohio River could see 6-8 inches of rain by next Sunday.

Also, don't let these warm temps make you think winter is over. The beginning of March is for now looking kind of wintery.

Monday evening update.

There look to be several periods of heavy rain heading towards Kentucky this week. Flood Warnings have already been issued for the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The GFS is predicting anywhere from 5-7 inches of rain. Especially along the rivers mentioned before. The rest of the state is looking at 2-4" of rain by Sunday evening.

Tuesday should be mostly cloudy with high temps in the low to mid-70s. Those that see breaks in the clouds could reach the high 70s. WKY could reach 80. Enjoy the nice warm dry weather on Tuesday. The rain is predicted to start moving in early Wednesday morning. Especially for WKY then by mid-morning, it should reach the entire Ohio River up towards NKY.

Heres' the cloud cover map for Tuesday. I'm using this one for the first time.
