Bishop Brossart 54 Newport 42

Brossart Lady Stangs continue to show improvement, defeating NKAC D-II opponent Newport 54-42 on Wednesday night in Alexandria. With the win the Lady Stangs improve to 9-4 heading into Crosstown Classic (vs Campbell County) weekend, as well as the start of the 10th Region All "A" Classic.

In this one, Newport led after 8 minutes of play 9-6. Brossart took over at 14-11 mid-second and drew off to a 25-16 by intermission. Newport refused to go away in the second half narrowing the Lady Stangs advantage to 36-32 after three quarters. The home team employed 8 of 11 free-throw shooting down the stretch to hold off the visitors and preserve the victory.

The Lady Stangs placed seven players in the scoring column, led by Freshman Madison Crowe who netted 14 points while 6-9 from the free-throw line. Classmate Marie Kiefer had another big night, scoring 13 points, pulling down 8 rebounds and blocking 5 shots. Senior Allison Schultz added 12 points.

Newport had five players put ink in the scorebook, led by Freshman Mya Meredith with 17. Ramey Garland added 12.

Newport will travel to Falmouth on Friday for a regular season encounter with the Pendleton County Lady Cats.
