ColonelMike Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 South Oldham hosts Floyd Central of Indiana on Thursday in Crestwood. Thoughts on this one? Anybody from Indiana who can comment on Floyd Central? They've always played South tough in a series that has been ongoing for a while - since Frank Wright was coach at South. Lady Dragons look like a very interesting team this year. Peyton Herald was a known commodity, but the addition of Zoe Holland in the backcourt gives this team an explosiveness I don't think they've had in a few seasons and creates a more dangerous inside-outside attack. Thoughts? I'll be calling this game with former South coach Frank Wright....will be good to hear from the retired coach who did so well at South Oldham. CM
ColonelMike Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 South Oldham enters this game with a 3-1 mark....since Frank Wright retired after the 2011-12 season, South - once a dominant player in the 8th region - has taken something of a back seat. Over the next three seasons, South had two coaches, compiled a 37-44 overall mark, and went 0-2 in region tourney play. Gene Heffington arrived two years ago, and after going 7-20 in 2015-16, notched a 20 win season last year. This season, the Lady Dragons are off to a 3-1 start and are averaging 63.7 ppg. Their lone loss was a narrow 65-60 decision to 6th region power Holy Cross (3-1 as of this writing). Heffington is getting solid efforts from numerous quarters. Zoey Holland, who transferred from Shelby County, leads three South players in double figures at 13.5 ppg. Maggie Smith averages 12.3 ppg, and Payton Herold averages 12.0 ppg. Three different players have led South in scoring in their four games. On the boards, Lexi Bowlden continues her hustling, blue-collar play from last year, leading the Lady Dragons at 5.8 boards a contest. She had 11 in the loss to Holy Cross. On a team that rebounds by committee - five players had five boards in the season opening win over Collegiate - Payton Herold also averages 5+ boards a contest at 5.5/game. South has had at least 30 rebounds in every game this year. South is shooting the ball pretty well, and hitting 34.8% of their threes, making an average of about 6 a game. Holland - at 9 of 19 - is a torrid 47.4% beyond the arc. These two teams have played every year for the last nine seasons, with Floyd Central winning 6 of 9, and the last two. Last year's game, a 58-54 FC victory, saw South shoot over 50% from the floor and over 71% at the line, but fall just short. Pegasus goes on the air at 7 pm ET on Thursday 12/7/17. The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN I will also try to post updates from the Crestwood gym. CM
