Purple88
Legendary Owensboro Red Devil Coach Gerald Poynter Passes Away Although I did not know Coach Poynter, I certainly knew of him, as he led the Red Devils to play BG back in the day. Coach Poynter coached Owensboro from 1965 to 1976; then again from 1988 to 1995 (20 years altogether). He is the ALL TIME winningest coach at Owensboro High School with 152-68-3 (68% win percentage). He NEVER had a losing season in 20 years. His best team was the 1974 2A State Champions who went undefeated that season knocking off Middlesboro 14-7 in the State Championship played that year at EKU. They had a 28 game win streak, which is one of the longest in Red Devils History. Owensboro recently renamed their Field House in Coach Poynter's honor. Please keep Coach Poynter's family and friends and the Owensboro Red Devil football family in your prayers as they have lost one of their greatest. Much condolences and respect from this Purple.
