Making the four hour plus drive to Pike County, Kentucky from Buckeye Lake, Ohio is always a treat for me, especially when Pike County Central can come out of their game with a win. As many of you know, who read these articles or my post, they have always been my favorite Pike County team and that will always be.

This one ended with Pike County Central winning by thirty and left no doubt that they were the better of the two teams. Both teams tried running the ball all night long, with Shelby Valley running the ball 52 of their 54 plays, with a lot going up the middle for little or no gain. The Hawks ran the ball 39 of 40 plays and totaled an unofficial 291 yards on the ground. The Warriors totaled just 102 yards on the ground.

The Pike County defense flew high right at the onset of this one, when Parker Eads got to #9(Not in either program, I have)for a 3-yard loss, with just :22 seconds gone in the game. A punt soon followed as the Hawks defense flexed its muscles for the three plays they were on the field.

Pike County Central needed just one play to go 72-yards for the game's first score. The score came on a quarterback keeper by, Seth Conn.A two point conversion failed when Noah Mullins of the Wildcats came away with a fumbled ball. So with 9:35 left in the opening quarter the Hawks had a 6-0 lead.

The Hawks did a short kick, almost an onside kick, that Adam Johnson of the Wildcats pounced on, with 9:34 left in the first.

The defense would rule the rest of the quarter, with neither team scoring. After one quarter of play the Hawks still led 6-0.

Conn would pick up 22-yards on another fine quarterback run, with 10:48 in the half. Conn would score from 10-yards out with 7:54 left in the half, as he was showing he was the best skilled player on the field, in this contest. The Wildcats forced an incomplete pass, on the Hawks 2-point conversion try to keep the score 12-0 Hawks.

The Wildcats offense started to purr a little when, Seth Johnson twist and turned on a nice run, to pick up a hard earned 16-yards, at the 7:54 mark of the 2nd quarter. Sophomore Dalton Mead used a powerful flex his leg muscles type run to pick up 12-yards, with 4:47 left in the half.:19 later the Wildcats offense would roar loudly when Seth Johnson plowed in from a yard out. A bad snap negated any chance of a point after kick and left this a 12-6 game.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Wildcats executed a line drive kick that bounced off of a Hawks player and then was recorded by the Wildcats Michael Wallace, with 4:24 left in the half. Defense would rule the final minutes of the period, so this remained a 12-6 Hawks lead, with the teams headed to the ,locker rooms.

Seth Conn The NEWARK CATHOLIC FAN PLAYER OF THE GAME took the 2nd half kickoff to the house, from about 65-yards out giving the Hawks an 18-6 lead. A two point conversion run was good for Issac Thacker to make this a 20-6 Hawks lead, with 11:46 showing on the clock.

The Hawks offense was soaring high again with 7:13 left in the third when, Thacker picked up 12-yards on a nice run. The Hawks offensive line did a nice job that allowed Isiah Hess to pick up 12-yards as he went to his right side, with 6:38 left. Then Hess used the work of his linemen to go up the gut for a 24-yard score.Conn would convert a two point run play to put the Hawks up 28-6 at the 5:49 mark of the quarter.

The Wildcats appeared to have picked up 17-yards on a nice hard run from Meade but a hold on the play negated the long run at the 4:27 mark. The drive ended shortly after that.

Conn would show the large crowd that he was human, when he fumbled the ball, with 1:05 seconds left in the quarter and making the recovery for the Wildcats was Seth Johnson. The clock read 27.4 when Seth Johnson picked up 17-yards on a run where he showed some tough determination and skill to move the chains.

Johnson would be tackled by Dotson for a 8-yard loss, with 10:49 left in this one.

:45 later Conn would pick off a Johnson pass to end any hopes that the Wildcats had to score on what looked to be a nice drive.

Hess scored the last touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run, where his line again dominated on the play. Conn ended the scoring with a two point conversion run to make this a 36-6 contest, with 9:30 left.
