Yes. But it can cause issues. Usually sporadic operation.

 

The battery is there so you can open it if the power goes out. But it can act funky if the battery is dead.

Heavier door requires a spring upgrade more so than an opener upgrade.

 

Spring adjustment/upgrade makes the door weigh zero. Nothing wrong with moving to a 1 1/4 though.

 

I would almost bet your battery is dying.

If you have a meter you can take it out and check voltage. 12 volt I believe, but it will say on the side of the battery.

 

You can probably get a generic replacement at Batteries Plus for less also.

Battery out. Still same issues. I dont see any sensors on the belt drive anywhere. Just 2 bolts. One by the door and one about 18 inches from the motor assembly.

In reading the online manual this morning. I was going to try something similar to this. This unit dorsnt have the screw adjustments but supossedly the two buttons on it slide the drive back and forth.

Glad you were able to get it.

 

I would test the voltage on the battery or replace it. That may have started your problem.
