Cruise to Alaska help, anyone been, suggestions?

Featured Replies

"The Boss" and I have been lucky enough to have visited every State in the USA except for Alaska. In 2018 if our health continues to be great, we want to go to Alaska. We have been told that an Alaskan Cruise is the way to go and yes we have been on a Cruise years and years ago to the Caribbean.

We would prefer not to travel on one of the Huge Cruise Boats, due to the crowds and we want to spend our money on seeing Alaska not on eating and drinking at some fancy restaurants on the ship but then again we aren't into the total adventure thing either. We have no problem with hiking, but rafting down an icy cold river isn't quite our speed either.

Would like to leave from Seattle but have no trouble with leaving from any port in Alaska. Would love to visit Denali National Park, Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords but are open to any places during our trip.

I understand this will cost some $$$$ but this is something we really want to do before we can't and I am looking at this as more of our 50th wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. No, it will be only our 48th year in 2018 but who knows what will happen over the course of the next few years health wise and it is something we really, really want to do, while we still can.

Also can anyone suggest a quality Travel Agency in the Local NKy, Cincinnati area?

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

First Discount Travel is who we used for our Honeymoon. Holly was fantastic. That was for a Caribbean trip, but they do it all.

I've also been on an Alaskan Cruise with Princess Cruises, which is a huge ship so that may not be your cup of tea, but it was unbelievable. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Unless something has changed, all but like 2-3 restaurants on the ship are included in your cost so you don't have to spend extra there.

I'd also recommend getting a room with a balcony if you go the cruise route. Once you get into Glacier Bay, you'll regret it if you don't.

Let me ask a coworker when she gets in. They take one to Alaska every summer.

She said its on Royal Caribbean, they book through a travel agent friend of theirs.

There are other ways besides cruises, obviously. There is this new company (to me) called Go Ahead Tours that have Alaska Tours that do Denali an the sights at fairly cheap prices. Their goal is to let you design and pay what you want to see. You really build your own package with their tour guides available when you get there.

My daughter in law went to Paris in June for under 3000K with flight and the works. They tour the sights the first day and you choose from there or prior. They went to Versailles and Giveny as add-ons and still stayed under 3000K. They sadi it was awesome.

Look them up.

I've heard great things from everyone we know who has traveled with this outfit. Might want to reconsider the big cruise ship angle.

I agree. Although there were a couple thousand people on the boat if I remember correctly, it did not seem crowded in the least.

Thank you all for the help.

Love the idea of going on the 3/4 day land cruise, then a 7 day cruises on Princess Cruise Line

Alaska Cruisetours - Princess Cruises

Have always wanted to see Denali National Park. Also found out a former co-worker of "The Boss" is a travel agent. The cost might be too much to go on the 3/4 day land trip but if we only get a inside rooms and not a balcony, we might be able to swing it, at least it's worth looking into.
