June 3, 20179 yr Parts of Kentucky, mainly northern and northeastern Kentucky, could have a chance for strong thunderstorms on Monday. There will be the possibility of isolated severe storms. These are expected to develop by early afternoon. Hail and wind are the primary risks with this activity. I will update later.
June 4, 20179 yr Author The SPC has shrunk the Marginal Risk Area some this morning for parts of northern and northeastern Kentucky. There is still a risk of scattered strong to severe storms for those portions of Kentucky during the afternoon and early evening hours. The showers that are predicted to move in later this evening and over night hours may limit the severity of the possible storms but the chance is still there. The main threats look to be damaging winds and hail in the more robust storms. The simulated radar below shows the scattered storms firing up around the 2 pm EDT hours in the aforementioned areas. Movement looks to be towards the southeast. Update later today. Have a blessed Sunday.
June 4, 20179 yr Author Sunday evening update. I'm seeing the threat for severe storms diminish for Monday afternoon. The showers and storms that will pass through Kentucky overnight and early Monday morning looks to lessen the severe threat. This is not unexpected. The heaviest showers and thunderstorms look to be mainly after midnight tonight. The widest coverage between midnight and around the 2 am EDT time slot. I look for the storms to be mainly east of I-65 around 8 am EDT. Around 11 am EDT the heaviest showers and storms should be confined mainly south of I-64 and east of I-75. At the same time east of I-65 around the Cumberland PKWY may see some scattered thunderstorms. I'll update in the morning.
June 5, 20179 yr Author Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue today as a cold front slowly passes through Kentucky. This front will dry us out and issue in cooler than normal weather. Looks like the main threat today will be heavy rain. Those in the southern half of Kentucky are under a Flash Flood Watch.
