Breds and Lady Demons hook up in a "good ole good one" tonight at Veterans Memorial Park in Newport.

 

Both pitchers put up goose eggs thru 5, aided by some good defense. NewCath's Haley Meyers only gave up a two-out infield single in the 2nd, and Williamstown's Jade Pinkston (a University of the Cumberlands signee), had scattered 5 hits during the 5 scoreless innings.

 

In the top of the 6th, Williamstown's Tabi Jordan, reaches on an infield single (girl can fly), steals 2nd and advances to 3rd on a passed ball. Following a strikeout, Jade Pinkston sends a shot into deep right that just stays inside the line for an RBI double. Following a GO1-3, the bases are loaded with a walk and E on a bunt, however Meyers induces a ground out 6-3, but the Lady Demons have a 1-0 lead.

 

In the Breds half of the 6th, they get a one-out Kennedy Bin single to right-center (Grause pinch-runner). Grause steals 2nd and the throw goes into center allowing Grause to move up to 3rd. Next up is Lexy Breen who hits a comebacker to the circle, Pinkston looks Grause back then fakes the throw to 1st......Grause is "hung out to dry", but the speedy little one is able to dive back into 3rd under the tag and all hands are safe. With Jenna Fryer at the plate Breen steals 2nd on the 1st pitch, on the next pitch Fryer lifts a fly ball into right-center that is caught, but deep enough for Grause to score and Breen to move up to 3rd.

 

As Marty Brennaman would say, "it's time for the Frisch's Big Boy Big Play of The Game :lol2: After fouling off the 1st two pitches, Alex (DLG 2.0) Burkart drives one in the 6-hole that Kaylin Peer dives for and snags, but 2.0 reaches 1st without a throw for the game winning RBI as Breen scampers home. Burkart would steal 2nd and score on an error on a throw that escapes the 1st basemen.

 

In the Williamstown 7th following a come-backer to the circle, the Demons would get a runner on 1st on an error, however she tries to steal 2nd and Kacy Zimmerman throws an ABSOLUTE bullet to the covering Lexy Breen who tags her out a full foot from the base. Tabi Jordan gets her 2nd infield single in as many innings, but that would be it as a 4-3 gound-out ends the game.

I was very impressed with Jade Pinkston from Williamstown, great rise ball with some pop, and really SOLID on hitting spots/control......zero walks.
