11th Region Week 3 Recap and Rankings

Featured Replies

Another week has come and gone in the 11th Region and things are starting to shake out more and more. At this point 4 teams look to be legitimate contenders to win the region while the rest are on the outside looking in at this point. Christmas tournaments give us a chance to see how our region teams stack up across the state and give us a glimpse into what to expect down the stretch.

Team Of The Week

Lexington Catholic - Big week for the Knights!! Huge region win against the preseason region favorite, Scott County, which I'm not sure many people other then the Catholic supporters saw coming. The Knights started the season off slowly but a lot of that had to do with the strength of schedule. They have won their last 3 games with wins over Doss, Scott County, and Calusa Prep out of Florida. The Knights continue with the Rock Holiday Classic this week.

Player of the Week

John Tillman - Tillman, a sophomore big man for the Frankfort Panthers had an outstanding week helping lead the Panthers to 2 big wins. He scored 13 points and collected 10 rebounds in an early week victory over Bishop Brossart and then poured in 24 points and 19 rebounds to help Frankfort get past crosstown rival Franklin County and stay undefeated in 41st District play.

Team Rankings

1. Scott County - Although the Cardinals took there first loss of the season this year it wasn't enough for me to drop them from the number 1 spot. A close loss on the road at Lexington Catholic is nothing to be ashamed of. They ended the week with a 30 point win over Lafayette. The Cardinals have two home games this week against Newport Central Catholic and Breathitt County. Should result in two more wins before Christmas.

2. Lexington Catholic - This is where it gets tricky. Catholic has a loss against Dunbar but a win over Scott County gave them just enough juice to skip over the Bulldogs this week. The Knights are currently playing in the Rock Holiday Classic at North Broward Prep in Florida this week and won the first game they played. After a rough start to the season the Knights look to be rounding into form.

3. Dunbar - As stated above the Bulldogs do own a 17 point victory over the Knights and picked up a huge win over district opponent LCA early in the week to improve to 3-0 in the always tough 43rd district. The Bulldogs have struggled late in the week with close losses against Ballard and Doss both at the King of the Bluegrass. Not bad losses by any means against great competition but not what the Bulldogs were hoping for. Next for PLD is Lee High School out of Alabama in the consolation bracket of the KOB.

4. Lexington Christian - The Eagles dropped a close one at Dunbar this week before bouncing back with a 20 point road win at Boyle County. The Eagles are a dangerous team and have the talent to beat any of the teams ranked ahead of them. This week the Eagles host the Central Bank Classic and have a matchup with 12th region favorite Pulaski County which should be a real good one.

5. Bryan Station - Only one game this week for the Defenders and a head scratcher at that. They lost a close home game against Lincoln County in a game where the Defenders led most of the way. So much potential with this team but they are up and down. They travel to Oldham County for the Best in Hoops tournament this week with a really good field. The opener is against Waggener who has a very nice team. Could learn a lot about Station this week.

6. Lafayette - The Generals started the week off great with a win at Tates Creek in convincing fashion before heading to Scott County and getting blitzed! The Generals also travel to the Best in Hoops tournament in Oldham County this week and open with Bullitt East who is always a tough team. This week will help to shore up the 5-8 rankings in this region.

7. Madison Central - The Indians have a case to be the number 5 team on this list but with a head to head loss against Lafayette and 3 losses this week against some good competition they come in at 7. More tough contests on the horizon for the Indians with Cordia, Mason County, and Bracken County this week.

8. Henry Clay - The Blue Devils only played one game this week but collected a 24 point win over Western Hills. They host the Blue Devil Invitational this week and look to get back over .500 for the season.

9. Madison Southern - A nice week for the Eagles picking up 3 wins all on the road. The most impressive of which to me was over Lawrence County. After a 0-3 start to the season the Eagles have won 4 straight and look to keep that going this week with only one game at home against Pikeville.

10. Sayre - The Spartans picked up a win over Class A rival Berea this week in convincing fashion. Senior Jake Duby is currently averaging 17.8 points per game for the Spartans. Games against Danville and Bell County are on tap this week.

11. Frankfort - Big week for the Panthers!! First they got a nice win over Bishop Brossart and then pulled out an overtime win against 41st district rival Franklin County. The Panthers currently lead the 41st District standings at 2-0. This week they head to the Farmers Bank Classic at East/West Jessamine.

12. Woodford County - Another head scratching week for the Yellow Jackets. First they knock off district opponent Franklin County and then lose big to Tates Creek at home who had yet to win a game. They also travel to the Farmers Bank Classic in Jessamine County this week.

13. Franklin County - Tough week for the Flyers losing two close games on the road in district play. They were able to bounce back with a win over Montgomery County. Another tough week ahead with games against LCA and Pulaski County at the Central Bank Classic.

14. Tates Creek - Don't look now but the Creek got the first win of the season with a 20 point beat down of Woodford County. They look to keep their winning ways going at the Berea Invitational this week.

15. Western Hills - Hills went 2-2 this week with losses at Henry Clay and home to Spencer County but were able to salvage the week with wins against Model and Garrard County. Troy Amanor continues to play well for the Wolverines. They finish up at the Garrard County Holiday Classic today.

16. Berea - The pirates took their first loss of the season earlier this week against Sayre and followed that up with a loss to Lynn Camp. However, they did manage a win over Heritage Academy. They host the Berea Invitational this week.

17. Model - 2 wins for the Patriots this week beating Lee County and Union County before falling to Western Hills. They finish up in the Garrard County Holiday Classic today against Estill County.

Can a mod please fix the title of the article not sure what happened!! Thanks

Great work as always! Madison Central is finding the road a bumpy one and it won't get any easier as the schedule is a tough one through out the year. If they can continue to grow with each game, and not let the wins and loses become an issue, they will be a factor come tournament time. Lot of youth and inexperienced players getting experience the tough way.

I agree Realreason! I saw them play the other night. Their district allows coach F to really challenge his kids early, break them down and then peak in February! He knows he's going to region! I think it's 25 plus years straight for regional appearances for the Indians. Guy focuses on end product better than anyone in the region. One of the 11th powers draws Central at EKU in the region and they better buckle the chin straps brother.
