Preston English

Featured Replies

After 8 games, the kid is averaging 31 and 11. The unsigned 2017 SG is the best scorer in the state. Throughout the summer and the first 8 games, he has torched almost every top rated player in the state. They say he is a one trick pony....shooter....REALLY? Uhhh....he also leads the state in rebounding. And if there is any player who gets to the cup any better Preston then I have not seen him. Colleges are missing bad on hIm.

Who did he play AAU with? I've not heard or seen him play yet.

Illinois Bears....should easily be a top 5 candidate for Mr. Basketball. He is that good. Plays for Murray High

While Preston English is a very good player, I do not think he is in the conversation for even top 20 in the state, let alone a Mr Basketball candidate, at least not right now. Here are my reasons.

Murray has played a very weak schedule and are in a very weak region. There are at least 25 players in the state who would average at least what he is right now against the competition they play. I mean, come on, he put up 46 on West Creek, Tn, a team who lost to Fort Campbell by 40. Ft Cambell lost to Hopkinsville by 50. So not a huge feat.

He was Murray's best scorer last year, but only averaged 12.6 ppg. They played against much better competition last year. He is really their only scorer this year so I expect he will put up bigger numbers, especially since he shoots more than 20 shots a game.

English may not even win POY in Region 1. Chris Vogt was without a doubt the favorite for that, but because he is injured, English may have a shot. If Vogt comes back and does what is expected, it will be hard for PE to win it cause Graves plays a MUCH tougher schedule than Murray does.

Preston is a great player, I rank him as the 2nd best player in Region 1 behind Vogt. I don't see him having any chance at winning Mr. Basketball. I'm not sure he will get a look from any major schools either. I am surprised Murray State or Samford hasn't given a closer look.

Murray does play against Bowling Green so I'm guessing he will throw up 25 - 30 shots against them.

Kid is a nice player but relax on the torched every top player comment. Plays in a weak region and was below average in the traditional tournament in lexington last year.
