The first full week of basketball is complete in the 11th region. A lot of exciting games and interesting results this past week, and a lot to discuss. I will provide new team rankings, a recap of the week, team of the week, player of the week, and a look ahead at the week to come!

Team of the Week

Lexington Christian - The Eagles went 3-0 this week with blowout victories against Harrison County, Whitefield Academy, and Ashland. Impressive start to the season for the Eagles as they were never challenged in any of their 3 games. Their length showed all week with impressive numbers in rebound differential and points in the paint. Kyle Rode, Austin Hall, and Carter Hendrickson all had standout performances for the Eagles. This week the Eagles face district foe Tates Creek on the road before hosting region favorite Scott County on Thursday. Big week for the Eagles.

Player of the Week

Austin Hall - Lexington Christian - Austin Hall averaged a double double this week for the Eagles and brought home player of the game at the Legacy Nissan Classic against Ashland Blazer. Congrats to Austin on the big week.

Team Rankings

1. Scott County

The Cardinals only had one game this week but showed why they are the top team in the region at this point. Scott County traveled to Paris and throttled a good Paris team by 31. Michael Moreno led the Cardinals with 25 points and 12 rebounds while Cooper Robb chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Cardinals host Powell County early this week before heading to LCA for a big early season matchup on Thursday then end the week Saturday against Knott County Central in Breathitt County.

2. Lexington Christian

As mentioned above the Eagles collected 3 blowout victories this week. So far the Eagles look to be off to a great start and should be 4-0 going into a key early season matchup with Scott County at home on Thursday. The big men are playing well so far for the Eagles while the guards have yet to be really tested defensively. The usual pressure Scott County applies will be a good early season test for the Eagles back court. Big game on Thursday night.

3. Paul Laurence Dunbar

The Bulldogs finished the week 2-1 with 2 wins over regional opponents Woodford County and Bryan Station and a loss at the Marshall County Hoopfest to defending 5A Alabama State Champions, Mae Jemison. Tavieon Hollingsworth had a big week for the Bulldogs averaging 28.3 points per game and 6.7 rebounds. The Bulldogs lack of length showed against Mae Jemison who had 2 6'7" players but the Bulldogs still put up a good fight. Big week for PLD as they host Lafayette and Lexington Catholic in to big early season district matchups. Really looking forward to the Lexington Catholic game.

4. Lexington Catholic

The Knights had an interesting week to say the least. After rolling Wolfe County in their opener the Knights fell at Covington Catholic, which is not a bad loss at all, and then lost a head scratcher to Conner in a close one. Luke Johnson had an ankle injury late against Covington Catholic that kept him out of the Conner game which was to much for the Knights to overcome. Expect him to be back this week. The Knights head to Corbin and to PLD this week for two tough road games and then play State Runner Up Doss in Jackson County on Saturday. Big time tests for the Knights this week. They will need Johnson playing to get through this tough week with some big wins.

5. Henry Clay

Only one game for the Blue Devils this week but they handled Tates Creek in a game where the final score was much closer then the actual game. Keaston Brown and Justin Mitchell both played well for Coach Brown's squad. The Blue Devils have a challenging week with games at rival Bryan Station, home against Louisville Eastern, and a neutral site game with 12th region favorite Pulaski County at Bourbon County. Should see what Henry Clay is made of this week.

6. Lafayette

What a great week for the Generals!! First they pull out a big overtime road victory at Lincoln County and then handle region foe Madison Central at home. The Generals lost a tough game to All A State Champion Cordia over the weekend but still a good week for the Generals. Eric Powell and JaJuante Carpenter had big weeks for Lafayette. The Generals head to Dunbar on Tuesday for a key district matchup with the Bulldogs then end the week at Bourbon County at the Kentucky Bank Shootout.

7. Madison Central

The Indians started the week off by beating rival Madison Southern in a close game that featured 69 fouls!! Despite shooting 28 of 54 from the Free Throw line the Indians were able to hold of the Eagles. A close loss on the road at Lafayette followed later in the week. Madison Central travels to Clark County and to Montgomery County for a couple difficult road games but I expect them to win both.

8. Franklin County

The Flyers went 2-0 on the week with home wins against Boone County and Spencer County. Diablo Stewart had a big week averaging 24.5 points and running the show for the Flyers. Franklin County host Collins this week before heading to Woodford County later in the week for a big early season district matchup. Expect the Flyers to remain unbeaten going into week 3 of the season.

9. Bryan Station

The Defenders started out the week with a big road win at Boyle County before falling in a big way to Dunbar at home. Terrance Clayton-Murphy averaged 20 points a game but the rest of the Defenders weren't much help against PLD. This week Bryan Station hosts Henry Clay and Tates Creek.

10. Woodford County

Rough start to the week for the Yellow Jackets as they got rolled at Dunbar but a nice bounce back victory with a 21 point win over Boyle County who had previously played Bryan Station close. Woodford will host district rivals Western Hills and Franklin County this week in big time early season seeding games for the 41st district.

11. Madison Southern

Rough week for the Eagles. They dropped a close one to rival Madison Central early in the week and then lost another close one to Whitley County. Matchups at North Laurel and Lincoln County will make this week no easier for the Eagles.

12. Tates Creek

Tates Creek went 0-3 this week with 3 blowout losses to West Jessamine, Henry Clay, and Knox County Central. The Commodores will need to right the ship quickly with tough games against LCA, at Bryan Station, and Sheldon Clark on a neutral site this week.

13. Western Hills

The Wolverines finished 1-2 this week with losses to Owen County and Henry County but did blow out Shawnee behind Troy Amanor's 35 points. Western Hills faces district rivals Woodford County and Frankfort High this week.

14. Sayre

The Spartans finished the week 0-2 with losses to East Jessamine and Beechwood both on the road. No stats have been posted so not sure what Jake Duby was able to do this week. The Spartans face Frankfort, Villa Madonna, and Harrison County this week.

15. Frankfort

The Panthers finished the week 0-2 with losses to North Oldham and Campbell County. This week they play fellow class a school Sayre before heading to district rival Western Hills.

16. Berea

The Pirates start the season 2-0 with wins against Lee County and Rose Hill. They face KSD and Owsley County this week.

17. Model

The Patriots start the season 0-4.
