Wayne County go a win they had to have last week, defeating Knox Central 20-16 on the road. Had they lost, the Cardinals, just one week prior considered the favorite to win the district, would have found themselves all but locked in to the 3 seed in the playoffs. The win allowed them to maintain the likelihood of opening the postseason at home and keeps them in our top 10. This week they host Russell County, fresh off a not as close as it looked 40-28 loss to district leading Rockcastle County, and in the throes of a five game losing streak. The Lakers are just 3-25 since a 9-1 and district-winning campaign in 2013, and appear to be in no shape to pull the upset here. In all likelihood, they need to be circling their game against Clay County, and hoping to get into the playoffs. Do the homestanding Lakers have any hope at all this week?
