Bizarre weather patterns throughout the week made fishing tough for most teams at the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament on Kentucky Lake.

But it wasn’t too tough for Lawrence County, who became the first school from outside western Kentucky to win the state title.

Eric Price and Noah West made their day one catch stand up as their two-day total of 34-pounds, 4-ounces was over four pounds more than second place McCracken County.

James Hampton and Cole Noffsinger of Muhlenberg County finished in fifth place.

Trigg County had a pair of teams compete, with Drake Oliver and Douglas Colson finishing in eighth place with a total of 26-pounds, 8-ounces. The duo caught 14-pounds, 1-ounce on the first day and 12-pounds, 7-ounces on day two.

For Colson, it’s his third straight top 10 finish at the state tournament. Oliver finished second in 2014.

Their finish keeps alive Trigg County’s streak of having a top 10 team each year in the state tournament’s four-year history.

Austin Greene and Zack Colbert finished 22nd with a two-day total of 21-pounds, 15-ounces. They followed up their first day catch of 11-pounds, 9-ounces with 10-pounds, six-ounces on day two.

Christian County fielded a team at the state tournament for the first time in program history. Brandon Boyd and Chance Glass suffered from boat issues on day one, which saw them catch four fish weighing 9-pounds, 10-ounces. On day two, they brought home two bass weighing four-pounds, one-ounce for a two-day total of 13-pounds, 11-ounces, good enough for 39th place out of 64 teams.

Calloway County freshman Myles McManus caught the big fish of the tournament, hauling in a 6-pound, 15-ounce largemouth on day one. It’s the largest bass caught in the four-year history of the KHSAA State Tournament.
