Nice Week For Johnson Central

Featured Replies

The Eagles pushed their record up to 16-5 on the season after going 4-1 during the week. They swept district foe Paintsville, winning 10-8 after leading by 9 heading into the bottom of the 5th in the opener, then cruised to an 11-2 win the following night. JC opened up the Tates Creek tournament with a hard fought loss to Scott County in 8. Starting pitcher, sophomore Tate Meade, went the first 7 allowing 2 hits, no runs to go along with 13 Ks. Two errors with the costly one being with 2 out in the 8th allowed the Cardinals to plate the winning run. Saturday they defeated Tates Creek 6-4 and Louisville Butler 8-5, giving up 5 in the bottom of the 7th. 3 of JCs losses have come in extra frames and they have a pretty solid 4 man rotation (Sophs Braxton Kelly and Tate Meade, Sr Josh Hitchcok and Freshman Gabe Ferral who already has thrown a No Hitter) with a nice supporting cast that can keep them in a lot of games unlike previous years. Their other two losses were at Boyd Co 5-2 and a 5-3 decision to Greenup at Vero Beach. If they can keep swinging the sticks and reduce the errors they have a nice shot at making another trip to State this coming season.

Max Preps has JC ranked 7th in the state (Kentucky High School Baseball Rankings - MaxPreps). BGP has them ranked in the top 25. CJ has them ranked 18th. Point: They are very good this season.

With the arms on that roster they have a real shot to not only win the region, but make some serious noise at the state tournament. They have played a really good schedule thus far and won or been in very game. I look forward to seeing how they progress during the back half of the season.
