Does your band do any special performances?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anybodys schools' band does special performances throughout the year. I know that Mayfield's band over the past few years has done a special performance during the game that is around Halloween. One year they did "Thriller" by Michael Jackson and I have to admit I was quite impressed.

NO!!! :irked: :irked: :irked:

Our marching band has NOTHING to do with football. Their performances stay the same every game, and they are there to practice for their competitions.

The music choices are not rousing or entertaining for the CROWD, but rather they are chosen to try to impress the competition judges.

I understand the competition side of things, but the fact that they don't even try to please the crowd shows me that their focus is totally on themselves.

Lest you think I'm being too hard on them, these comments are coming from a musician: I majored in music education in college. So I understand their desire to sharpen themselves. But do it on your own time.

If you want to be part of a "football" event, serve the team and the crowd, not yourselves.

Man, that is sad, I fully agree.

The only thing special that I like from the band is playing as a pep band during football and basketball games. We did this during high school and we had a blast. It takes a good band director to get everyone on board--the band, the cheerleaders and the football players. But it can have a huge impact on the game.

Last year I went to the Beechwood-Bellevue game and the Bellevue Band of Gold was awesome in the stands. Don't remember much about the field performance, but they kept the crowd rowdy. Makes a huge difference when the band is getting the crowd involved.
