South Oldham in the Sweet 16

Featured Replies

Third time in four years as champs of the 8th Region. Nice run, Dragons.

Steve Simpson, in his 16th season at the Crestwood school, has led the Dragons to the winningest season in school history (28 wins) and, as stated, the school's third region title (all coming in the last four seasons).

South set a state record this year, making 355 threes (so far).

South has never won a state tournament game, losing to Hopkinsville in the first round in both 2013 and 2014....a win over the Owensboro Catholic Aces in the last first round game Thursday night (tipoff at 8 pm) would not only be their first tournament win, but it would also be Simpson's 300th victory in his career at South.

Balanced scoring is key for South....all five starters average between 8-10 ppg, and Jacob Bray, off the bench, leads the team in scoring a just under 12 ppg. Everyone has the green light - Dylon Snook, who had just 9 made threes during the season - hit three in the first round region tourney win over Owen County. Anyone is capable of a big night. (Snook, averaging 3 ppg, scored 16 that night, including 14 in the fourth quarter)

Anyone looking on the Dragons' bench will see another coach who deserves a nice run. Bobby Simpson, the longtime veteran 8th Region head coach (Oldham County, Carroll County, ad infinitum) has been Steve Simpson's (no relation) right-hand man for a number of years. These two have both "paid their dues" - glad to see them getting the opportunity to make some noise at Rupp.

For anyone who cannot make the South games, ALL South Oldham games at Rupp will be broadcast over internet radio, Pegasus Sports, the official voice of high school sports in Oldham County, and the voice of the 8th Region tournament.

PSN goes "on-air" Thursday at 7 pm with the pregame show; 8 pm tipoff.

If the Dragons advance, there will be a half-hour pregame show on Friday / Saturday.

Should South make it to Sunday, there will be a one-hour pregame show.
