March 11, 201610 yr Be alert that the SUN game has been moved to FRI evening following the 1st game of the series due to forecast of bad weather. FRI - 3:00 PM DH SAT - 1:00 PM Series Finale Assume they will keep Funkhouser for the 1st game today and McKay on SAT and either move McClure from SUN to 2nd game of DH OR use a midweek starter and the bullpen. Best news from the schedule change? $1 beers for 2 games instead of 1!!!
March 13, 201610 yr Author Huge series sweep by the Cards over Notre Dame. After extremely poor clutch hitting with RISP in Game 1, Cards rallied from 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 deficits to win on a walk off 2 run HR by Solak in the bottom of the 11th. Really good outing by Funkhouser. Nice to see that from him in the ACC opener. In game 2, UofL got on top early with some help form ND defense and McKay cruised despite unusual wildness. Pitching at night and a day early could have had something to do with it. 13 Ks showed he had really good stuff, but his walks were way up from usual and so was his pitch count. Game 3 was a pitcher's duel as Harrington pitched 8 innings of scoreless baseball. Cards put Summer and Ray on 3B and 2B with no out in the B8. After a ND pitchout trying to sniff out a suicide squeeze, McDonnell put it on and Logan Taylor did a great job of getting a low pitch in play. Easily scored Summer, but Ray was thrown out trying to score from 2B after they threw out Taylor at 1B. Bang bang play and announcers speculated that C missed the tag. Love the aggressive play but you can't get thrown out there. Much better to have runner on 3B with 1 out than nobody on and 2 out in a 1-0 game. Burdi came on in the 9th and closed the door. Very good start to the ACC season for the Cards. Plenty of talent, and they will get better. Need to do the fundamental things better as the season progresses. I am sure they will.
March 13, 201610 yr 8 in a row now for the Cardinals and the Cardinals are still unbeaten in ACC weekend series, having won all 11 since joining the league.
