2015-16 16th Region District Tournament Preview and Region Rankings

Featured Replies

61st District Tournament Preview:

Bath County High School will be the host of the district tournament this season. This district has had only one dominate team all season, Rowan County. The Vikings have ran over every team in their district.

FAVORITE:

ROWAN COUNTY (17-11):

The Vikings have demolished every team in their district this season. Their closest district game was a 59-42 home victory over Fleming County. Rowan County demolished Menifee County 97-36 earlier in the season, the same team they open up with tomorrow.

FIGHTING FOR 2ND:

BATH COUNTY (8-22):

Bath County opens up with Fleming County in the opening round of the 61st district tournament. These two split the regular season, Bath County winning by 4 and Fleming County winning by 3.

FLEMING COUNTY (5-22):

The Panthers may have just won 5 games this season but they have a chance, a great chance to advance to not only the district championship but also the regional tournament. Fleming County will open up district play with Bath County, a team that they split the regular season with.

SO FAR AWAY:

MENIFEE COUNTY (1-25):

Wildcats only win came when they defeated Rose Hill Christian earlier in the season. They have been demolished by every team in their district and opening with Rowan County is gonna be extremely tough to over come.

BRACKET:

Feb. 23 Rowan County vs. Menifee County

Feb. 23 Bath County vs. Fleming County

Feb. 25 Championship

62nd District Tournament Preview:

Hosted by Elliott County High School. This district will be one of the better districts in this region with all 4 teams capable of winning it. Their really isn’t a true favorite in this district.

FAVORITE:

WEST CARTER (20-7):

The Comets have had a pretty good season, standing at 20-7 and currently on a 5 game win streak and have won 9 of their last 10 games. Comets open up with crosstown rival, East Carter, a team that they took 2/3 from this season.

BATTLING TO SEE WHO GOES TO REGION:

ELLIOTT COUTNY (17-7):

The Lions are the host of the district tournament this season. Elliott County started the season and went mid-way through the season 11-1 but from January 7th to February 2nd, nearly a month, 1-6 but got it turned around and now have won 5 straight but the bad news is, Elliott County is 0-2 vs. Morgan County, the team they open up district play with, but the good news is, Morgan County hasn’t played @ Elliott County this season.

MORGAN COUNTY (20-8):

The Cougars have had a darn good season thus far but 4 of Morgan County’s 8 losses have came within their last 8 games. Cougars have defeated Elliott County twice this season, one by 4 and the other one by 17 but neither were @ Elliott County.

DARK HORSE:

EAST CARTER (9-16):

The Raiders may have won 9 games this season but they have played, West Carter, realitvely close this season but the Raiders are just 2-6 in their last 8 games, that’s not where they need to be heading into district tournament this week.

BRACKET:

Feb. 23 West Carter vs. East Carter

Feb. 24 Morgan County @ Elliott County

Feb. 26 Championship

63rd District Tournament Preview:

Hosted by Greenup County High School. This district is a toss up between two teams, Greenup County and Lewis County has both teams split the regular season.

FAVORITE:

GREENUP COUNTY (19-9):

The Musketeers have been hot lately, winning 6 straight. Greenup County will open up district play with Raceland, a team that they defeated twice this season.

CLOSE BEHIND:

LEWIS COUNTY (15-12):

The Lions are hungry for a district championship, something they haven’t won since 2011. Lewis County knows what it takes to win the district crown as they have split the regular season with favorite, Greenup County but Lewis County must get through Russell first.

LOOKING TO MAKE UPSET TEAMS:

RACELAND (13-15):

The Rams are 4-3 in their last 7 games but open up with a tough game against Greenup County, a team they have fell twice to.

RUSSELL (5-24):

Russell has struggled all season and in fact they haven’t won a game since January 14th when they defeated Raceland, that’s a 11 game losing streak.

BRACKET:

Feb. 22 Raceland @ Greenup County

Feb. 23 Lewis County vs. Russell

Feb. 25 Championship

64th District Tournament Preview:

Hosted by Ashland High School. This district has the chance to be a good one with 3 out of the 4 teams capable of winning it.

FAVORITE:

BOYD COUNTY (17-12):

The Lions are a perfect, 6-0 against district teams this season. Boyd County are the defending district champs. Boyd County will open up district play with Rose Hill Christian, a team they demolished both times this season.

BATTLING TO SEE WHO GOES TO REGION:

Fairview (9-18) and Ashland (16-9) will battle to see who gets the right to face, more than likely, Boyd County for the district championship and to see who will make it to the regional tournament. Ashland took both games from Fairview this season but this game should be a dandy.

WAY BACK THERE:

ROSE HILL CHRISTIAN (9-19):

Rose Hill has struggled all season and it doesn’t get any better as the Royals will open up with Boyd County in the opening round of the district tournament.

BRACKET:

Feb. 22 Ashland @ Fairview

Feb. 23 Boyd County vs. Rose Hill Christian

Feb. 26 Championship
