Janiya Davis cleared to play for Hopkinsville.

Featured Replies

She averaged almost 18 ppg as a sophomore for UHA and she will help this Hoptown team tremendously. Will it be enough to overtake Madisonville....probably not. But it sure makes the region much more interesting.

Madisonville for 2 nd??

What changed from the time she was ruled ineligible to get her cleared?

The Graves County thread on the boys side got me to thinking about this story again. I live in Christian County and know most of the details surrounding this situation. I know that she lives in Christian County's district, not Hopkinsville's. I know that she played for Christian County as a freshman and University Heights as a sophomore. I can understand how she became eligible to play for University Heights but I cannot understand how she is eligible to play for Hopkinsville when she still lives in Christian County's district. And for those paying attention she is the 2nd University Heights transfer to become eligible to play for Hopkinsville this season. I don't understand how the KHSAA can ignore the rules in this situation and selectively enforce the rules when it's convenient. I would love to hear the rationale for why she is all of a sudden cleared to play. I would also love to hear the coach's explanation to the parents after this kid became a starter with less than 1 week of practice time.

She wouldn't have started at Henderson so fast. When Owens gets back she will be starting on the bench and most likely the 2 nd one of the bench until she earns her spot back.

That's because Coach Haile runs his program with class. I could understand letting her resume her starting position after returning from an injury. Now giving a starting position or even playing time period to a kid so early without participating in practice until the week of is absurd. What does that tell the rest of your players? Everything you have done to earn your spot to this point does not matter because she is better than you? If she earned the spot over time I understand. Playing time and starting especially should be earned not given.

Actually she lives in Hopkinsville's district according to the address with the school system.

Like I said in the other thread, that must have changed in the last week or she must be using someone else's address because when the ruling was reversed she was still living in Christian County's district. That is why she was ruled ineligible from the beginning.

As per someone at CCPS she moved from Christian County district to Hopkinsville district in September of 2015. Her move was verified by the school district. So maybe the KHSAA initially rejected it because she lived in the wrong district when she enrolled at HHS, but moved into the district afterwards.

On another note I also asked about Sebree from Christian County. He does in fact live in Hopkinsville district but was cleared to play for Christian County. So there is another case that I don't understand.

In my opinion, the ruling on Davis makes a joke out of KHSAA! Just like WKY said it is crazy a kid can play for 3 different hs's in 3 years all within the SAME COUNTY!

I also agree with Cols post about earning playing time! Obviously Davis is talented but without even being cleared to practice she immediately gets on the court. Interesting? Maybe it was because of who they were playing?

Sebree's mother works at Christian County is the reason he was cleared immediately.

No she doesn't. She is the IBC at Crofton Elementary. So if what you are saying is correct, a teacher can work anywhere in a district and choose where to send their children for athletic reasons?

Crofton Elementary is a feeder school for Christian County.
