1.Perry County Central (13-3):

The Commodores win the 2016 WYMT Mountain Classic. Perry Central was one of several teams that participated in the annual Mountain Classic. Perry Central would open up with Lawrence County, a team that had beaten them just a week or two before, this time around it was the Commodores defeating Lawrence County 83-72, with the win, The Commodores would move on to face 13th region powerhouse, Clay County, another game and another double digit win for the Commodores as they move on with a 79-68 victory over the Tigers. Perry Central would meet Harlan County in the Championship game of the WYMT, Perry Central would go on to win the game 53-47 and win the WYMT Mountain Classic Championship.

 

Perry Central was led by Damon Tobler who averaged 18 points and 10 boards in those 3 games. James Blair added 13 points and 4 boards in those wins as well.

 

 

2.Cordia (6-6):

The Lions were off last week and won’t return until Monday (1/11) when they participate in the 14th Region All “A” Classic against Buckhorn.

 

3. Hazard (11-2):

The Bulldogs had just one game this past week but it was a W as they defeated June Buchanan 50-42. That win puts Hazard at 8 straight victories and have won 9 of their last 10. Hazard will play on Tuesday in the 14th Region All “A” Classic against either Cordia or Buckhorn, on the road.

 

4.Letcher County Central (10-4):

The Cougars started off hot, winning 8 of their first 9 games but have since cooled off, going 2-3 in their last 5 games. The Cougars have two big district games this week, hosting both Knott Central on Tuesday and June Buchanan on Friday.

 

5.June Buchanan (11-4):

The Crusaders seen their 7 game win streak snapped last week when they dropped a 50-42 contest to the #3 Hazard Bulldogs. 3 of those 7 wins came in Charlotte NC where they won the Hoodies Classic.

 

 

 

6.Knott County Central (7-7):

After starting the season off 6-1 the Patriots have went 1-6 in their last 7 games. The Patriots will travel to Letcher County on Tuesday and then play North Laurel at Pike Central on Saturday.

 

7.Breathitt County (10-6):

The Bobcats have been warm as of late winning 4 of their last 6 games with wins Harlan Independent, Betsy Layne and Lynn Camp. Breathitt County will have a tough task this week as they participate in the 14th Region All “A” Classic.

 

8.Buckhorn (6-10):

The Horn is struggling this season, winning just 6 games but the bad thing is they’ve only won 2 of their last 6 games, granted they’ve played some stiff competition, Covington Holy Cross, Danville, Caverna, Harlan County, Letcher Central but it don’t get any easier this week or next week with the opening round game of the 14th region All “A” Classic against Cordia.

 

9.Leslie County (6-7):

The Eagles own wins over Knott Central, Breathitt County and are undefeated at home but are 1-4 on the road and 0-3 on a neutral court. Leslie will face Jenkins on Tuesday and travel to Bell County on Friday.

 

10.Wolfe County (10-5):

After losing 5 straight and pushing their record to 8-5, the Wolves have won back to back games over Menifee County and Jackson City to push their record to 10-5. Wolfe County will face Owsley county in the opening round of the 14th Region All “A” Classic.

 

11.Powell County (6-8):

1-3 in their last 4 games with the win coming in blowout fashion over Owsley County 82-27. The Pirates make the trip up the Mountain Parkway to Hazard to battle the Perry Central Commodores on Tuesday, then make the short trip over to Irvine on Friday to battle the Engineers.

 

12.Estill County (4-12)

Engineers are 2-4 in their last 6 games. Engineers are home Friday hosting district rival, Powell County.

 

13.Jackson City (4-12):

The Tigers own a win over #11 Powell County on the Pirates own home floor.

 

14.Owsley County (3-11):

Their 3 wins have came in their last 7 games. The Owls have lost 3 straight with two of them to district foes, Estill County and Powell County.

 

15.Lee County (2-10):

1-3 in their last 4 games for the Bobcats. Lee County awaits the winner of Owsley/Wolfe in the 14th Region All “A” Classic.

 

16.Jenkins (1-12):

Jenkins’ lone win came over Riverside Christian back on Dec. 23.

 

17.Riverside Christian (0-15):

The Rams are still struggling to get in the win column.
