Lawnboy13 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Not my usual report, since I had announcing duties tonight for this one. It was a triple header up on the "hill" tonight and Highlands pulls off the "hat trick". The Frosh game goes to the Birds by 1, and the JV game.....well lets just say, I've seen better 4th grade girls games. Varsity Game : NewCath led 12-4 after one period, and opened up a 20-10 lead into the 2nd. However the Birds went on a nice run to take a 24-22 lead late in the 2nd, sparked by a Haley Coffey "triple" to start the 14-2 run. The Birds, McKenzie Leigh, hits a "triple" at the 3rd quarter horn to tie things up at 36. The Birds would extend the lead to 7, before the Breds made a very nice comeback. With under a minute to go, and the Birds clinging to a 3 pt. advantage at 45-42, the Breds turned the ball over 2 times. However, they would get the ball back by fouling Zoie Barth 3 straight times, and she would miss the front end of the one n one. Credit the Highlands defense on the final possession, as they would not allow a game tying 3, and the Breds settle for a Ajia Rice gimme with 5 seconds and the Birds let the clock expire. Turnovers doomed the Breds in this one, but Highlands played some good "D" as well. McKenzie Leigh finished with a game high 16 for Highlands, while NewCath's Ansley Davenport tallied 15. RCC9 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Very impressed with the Breds effort tonight. They outplayed the birds in the first quarter and most of the first half. Birds really only got in sync on a few occasions tonight. Credit the Breds. Second half was a game of mini runs. Both teams having their share. The Breds played hard. This is a huge rivalry game and most years you can throw out records or rankings. These kids have played with it against each other all their lives. Good luck to NCC! If they can keep that level of intensity, they can make a run. For the Birds...Really can't wait for the Birds to get all their kids back to 100%.
