The heat was pretty hard on some of the girls yesterday. 1 player (catcher) from Russell Flatwoods (11 yr old) was taken to the hospital for dehydration during the Russell vs Adair game. A player from Russell Flatwoods (9-10 yr old) was being checked for dehydration. A player from N Oldham (11 yr old) went to the hospital to have her arm checked for a possible break. I certainly hope and pray these girls are doing okay. League officials were speaking with the coaches yesterday making sure they were keeping their girls hydrated.

While it may be torture for the fans to sit through many water breaks during this heat, it hould be mandatory that once every innning and a half or two innings there should be and extended period of time allotted to the teams in between innings to get the much needed fluids into their systems. When gotta remember that those girls are out their busting their butts not only for themselves or their parents, but for their respective cities and counties and they deserve to be given the chance to play at full strength.

Oh and thanks for the updates. Keep em coming!!!

The umps were very aware of the girls yesterday and were giving them frequent water breaks. The parents for all the teams seemed to be very aware to. I even heard a parent for a team with a big lead ask the ump to check to opposing pitcher as she looked like she was struggling with her breath and may need some water.

Congrats to all!

I believe that the correct name for the Junior League is Laurel Co. It seems like all the North fans forget that the team includes some girls from South Laurel. I sure hope that they dont receive North Laurel letterman jackets again this year because to me it was really an insult to the South Laurel girls. But I guess it was a cheap way for North Laurel to get their girls letterman jackets without having to pay for them.

:creepy: I also want to say that there was some great umps working the tournamnet even the Times Tribune commented on them. It's really sad that NLL would have bad umps who are from North Laurel officating these games and giving anyone who played against South the calls.Sorry about your luck 9-10 year olds the ump behind the plate made a terrible call and totally gave the MOmentum to Russell.IT WAS FORCE OUT!!!!

First of all, many of the umps were sent by the state Little League and very few were umps from North Laurel. Rick Johnson (South London) and Frank Stivers were the other persons responsible for the umps. Most of the umps were either from out of town or normally ump at South London, not at North. I saw 1 ump who actually umps at NL during this tournament and more than a few from SL so let's be factual in our posts regarding this matter. The tournament director was David Mosley, a league official for years from South London. I cannot comment on the play you are referring to as I did not see it, but I really wanted that South London team to win that game. Good kids and I really like their coach. However, just because you didn't recognize the umps, don't assume they were from NL. Heck, in the district tournament the week before, the umps were primarily from Pulaski County & South London. The news paper folks were mad for a different reason, ... those umps you insist are from NL, were not, but they would not allow the sports reporters onto the field to take photos as they other umps had allowed them to do. While I don't agree with the decision that the UMPS made to keep them off the field, it is in the rules that noone is to be on the field of play except the players, officials and coaches. The local umps had no problem with them being on the field, but those who were sent in from out of town did not. There were more umps from South London than North Laurel in the state tourney.

Second, you are correct, the Junior league team was a combo North and South little league team. Last year's NL JL team had 2 players from South and even one of the coaches as well (Gaines) and was called NL. This year's team was a pure Laurel Co All Star Team. If you notice the posts before the final results, I did list them as the Laurel Co Lady All Stars in posts #4 and #5. I apologize if the error offended you. I am glad that they found a comprimise to make everyone happy this year.

Third, I find it more offensive to see some (not all) South London fans vocally cheering for Valley Sports everytime they scored on the North Laurel Little League team. These are kids from London and represent our entire community and THAT is who they were cheering against. I wanted to see a Laurel Co team win every division and while we didn't see that, we had a team in every title game except in the 11-12 year old LL division, and we should all be proud of that. These girls represented our community well. That being said, I also saw some, like James Burns, cheering for teams on both sides of the county, not just his 9-10 yr old South London minor league team. He seemed to understand that these are all our kids. Even while some of the parents on both sides are so far gone that they don't realize this, it is good to know that we still have people who actually 'get' what little league is all about.

We apparently have let the division between NL and SL go beyond the high school ranks and filter down to the little league level, and this is sad. If the parents would just leave the kids alone and not fill their heads with a bunch of nonsense about 'the other side of the county', the kids would get along just fine.

Again, congrats to all the girls of Laurel County who had very successful tournaments and good luck to all the teams that earned the right to move onto the next level.
