October 28, 201510 yr "There is in this Universe what appears to be design. But instead we repeatedly discover that natural processes, a collisional selection of worlds, a natural selection of gene pools, or even the convection pattern in a pot of boiling water can extract order out of chaos and deceive us in deducing purpose where there is none." ---SAGAN For those who like to ponder philosophical , scientific, religious, and questions about the Universe, I welcome your comments:
October 29, 201510 yr Perhaps we can look at this universe from another perspective. Every single person on earth, regardless of race, religion, gender, upbringing, or beliefs, has at some point been unhappy. Even the richest people in the world have days that bring them sadness, no matter what it may be. Somebody can have all the money in the world, and some simple things (their favorite sports team losing) and some big things (death of a loved one) will still upset him/her. Also, let's look at drug users. Since the beginning of human history people have been abusing alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, (among other substances) and today heroin is probably worse than ever. The thing about people who are substance abusers, specifically anxious/depressed users (extremely common among drug culture), is that they turn to drugs because they do not feel. They do not feel happy and they do not feel loved, so they seek out substances to acheive an artificial (artificial in terms that the body does not naturally produce the amounts of dopamine that drugs release) feeling that merely mimics love and happiness. You would probably agree that no matter how many shots an alcoholic takes, no matter how many hits of weed an addict takes, and no matter how many times a heroin addict injects drugs into their system, they will never obtain the true feeling they were seeking (love/happiness). That is what addiciton is in essence: chasing a feeling, a high. And I'd think you agree that no substance addiction is a good one. So, what the hell does all this mean? I think that it means that you are right, this Universe was not made for us. In fact, I believe there is a better Universe way beyond scientific discovery that was made for us. Many world religions - Christianity, for example - teach that this world beyond us is simply eternal love and eternal happiness. "I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." --CS Lewis
