District play opens this week in Oldham County.

The South Oldham Dragons (2-1) and the Oldham County Colonels (0-4) are back in the same district this year after the re-districting. The two haven't been in the same district since 2004....

The Dragons will come into the game as a solid favorite, fresh off a 14-0 shutout over the other Oldham squad, North Oldham, this past Saturday. Coach Jamie Reed's team looked especially efficient on defense, but the offense, led by sophomore QB Drew Zaubi's two TD passes to Keanan John, did enough work to get the win.

Oldham County has played a really brutal schedule to start the season, with games versus Ballard, North Oldham, Shelby County, and CAL. Not exactly the recipe for success for a rebuilding program under second-year Mike Shatzer. But rebuilding is a process, and not always a quick one.

Key for Oldham will be establishing some offensive drives....the Colonels have just two offensive TDs this year, and just three TDs overall in four games.

South will have to come down from the mountain after en emotional win over the Mustangs, who had beaten South in the last two meetings and 6 of the last 8.

The winner goes to 1-0 in the new district, which also features Bullitt East, North Bullitt, Bullitt Central, and Nelson County.
