Covington Catholic vs. Elder (OH) Predictions

NKY's #1 team vs. Cincinnati's #1 Division 1 team -- what are your thoughts? Is this the last team on the Colonels' schedule that would be considered a push, if not a favorite, against them? I know McNick is solid, and Summit might be (but like Walnut, I'm not nearly as high on them as many others are), but is the best test remaining?

I think this is quite a step up from Walnut Hills and will be a real test for CCH. Key will be stopping Sabato for Elder and also generating some offense against them. Looks like they have won both their games by shutout so far. On a hot day, CCH will have to get into their bench quite a bit I would think.

How much depth does Elder have? As groinpull says, the heat will likely force both coaches to look further down their bench then they might otherwise do in a game like this, #1 Vs #1 .

Haven't seen Elder play this season, so it is a bit of a guess on my part, but I think CCH defense still has work to do. Because of this Elder gets a road win, 2-0. Good thing is CCH learns a ton from this game and only gets better from it.

This is entirely possible but I'd be surprised if CCH doesn't dent the net at least once.

The team that can win the possession percentage will have a big advantage in this heat. If a team is forced to chase for long periods they will wilt on the vine in these conditions. First goal is big, scoring team can settle in and just play simple, keep the ball.

I believe Mason is the #1 team in D1 across the river. Elder #2 .

Really? Even after Mason tied Lebanon 1-1? I thought the new poll had Elder #1 . Either way, we're splitting hairs, they're good.

Elder will be a good test. IMO of the Ohio schools Cov Cath plays, they are the second toughest. Summit will be the toughest. McNick 3rd toughest.

Elder's Joey Sabato is a hell of a player. A definite game changer. If Cov Cath's defense isn't ready and playing well, Joey could light them up.

Although, with friendly Ky refs helping, Cov Cath could do well.

Tied 0-0 at half. Elder has had the better of the play in the first half and probably should be leading. Poor communication by the CCH defense and some shoddy passing have lead to some bad turnovers. Both teams have missed some point blank chances.

1-0 Elder. Sabato about 90 seconds into the half.
