Musketeers ‘D’ doesn’t budge in 35-0 opening-night victory

By AARON SNYDER The Independent LLOYD Some might call Chris Mullins the calculus teacher a math whiz.

It didn’t take a genius to see that his football team executed a proper formula and showed its work, to boot, on Friday night.

Greenup County chalked up these nice and tidy numbers against Lewis County: 0 and -1.

The Musketeers manhandled Lewis County, 35-0, at Greenup County High School. The shutout marked their first since Mullins took over in 2011.

“If we get a chance to hit somebody, we’re gonna hit ’em,” said junior Peyton Ailster.

Greenup County laid a few licks on the Lions as Lewis County lost a yard per every one of its 27 recorded rushing plays, which included a botched snap on a punt.

Ailster, Ethan Coldiron and Garrett Collier had one sack apiece. Jackson piled up a pair. In all, Greenup County’s defense logged 11 negative-yardage plays to go along with a handful of quarterback hurries.

“We’ve done that since we was little,” Jackson said, namely of the upperclassmen. “Defense is first. If you ain’t got defense, you ain’t gonna win many games.”
