AGullett08
Any thoughts on their key players? How will they do this year?
groinpull
Don't know much about Holmes or who they graduated. It does appear that they had quite a few underclassmen last year on varsity so that should be a good thing.
Sir!
With adoption of SB 97 ("Graduate Kentucky") standards, which raised age to drop out of HS from 16 to 18, more Holmes kids may stay with the program longer. Coach Tom Haggard is doing great work in Covington getting school-based teams at the elementary and middle schools. He also works with the kids on their academics, helping them connect with club soccer, and is a general champion for the boys. For all of those reasons I think Holmes will continue to improve year-over-year. Holmes brings back a lot of underclassmen, including rising Juniors Kerry Nolasco and Josh Lemus. Kerry has a lot of similarities to 2013 graduate Sergio Vancini (he now plays at Spalding in Louisville)... maybe a bit quicker. If Holmes doesn't have to play CCH in the first round of districts, it wouldn't surprise me to see them finish as District runner up and make a Regionals appearance (call that my pre-season long-shot prediction). riseandgrind03
Holmes has a shot at making an appearance at regionals this year, as long as they don't meet CCH in the first round of the District Tournament. Tom Haggard has changed Holmes program tremendously since taking over. I expect Holmes program to grow and grow as long as he is in charge. The Bulldogs have returning juniors Kerry Nolasco and Joshua Lemus who will play a tremendous roll in their play. They also have a freshman he's another Lemus, saw him play a couple times at the JV level, he'll help this team a bit too. Only struggle I can see Holmes having trouble filling a spot from losing last years seniors is in the Net. Logan Daniel is a huge loss for the bulldogs. Good luck to Holmes this year - my prediction is they'll have a winning record and make an appearance to Regionals.
flops&hacks
I watched the Holmes Ncc match up last year. I believe Holmes had a better record going into the match up but quickly figured out they were out matched. Is one of these players you mention the sweeper from last season who got so angry after around the 6th goal or so got carded for punching or kicking the corner flag? If so he was very talented, just needed to mature a bit. I think they may have a chance, beware of beechwood they may be a sleeper in that diatrict. He's a force to be reckon with. He will dominate Holmes defense and will control the game. Along with help of Senior Bernal I think? Holmes has talent, and I think they can surprise a lot of teams in this district.
