Keeping valuables safe on vacation

Featured Replies

I am about to head back overseas and as we all worry a bit about, is what to do with the valuables?

A while back ago I discovered a great way to keep valuables safe, a portable safe. I have Sentry Safe one shown below, and you can order it from Walmart for just under $20, and on Amazon for about $25 delivered. I am sure there are other companies that have these as well.

It comes with a tethering cable, so when the safe is opened you just pull the cable through it's loop (also looping it around a bedpost or something else that will be hard to cut through, then place the end in the little slot of the safe and close the lid.

When you are at the location you are staying you are not supposed to take your passport with you. The U.S. Department of State tells you to keep only a copy of the photo and information page with you, so if you get it and or your wallet stolen, you still have your passport. And of course you can put anything else in there too that you need to. It's a decent size as well.

Sentry also has the same safe as shown below that you can use with a key.

I have a similar portable safe with cable from Master Lock, it works very well. They are quick and easy to get into. You can also change combos very quickly.
