Bishop Brossart 7 Walton-Verona 5

Featured Replies

The Brossart Mustangs outlasted the Walton-Verona Bearcats 7-5 in the second half of the Reds Futures Baseball Showcase at Scott High School.

Senior Clay Kramer started for the Mustangs and went 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Junior Billy Gebauer who was the pitcher of record for the Mustangs.

Jacob Eten took the mound for the Bearcats, going 5 complete innings before giving way to reliever Josh Long who went an inning, turning it over to James Tilley to finish it out.

Walton drew first blood in the home half of the second inning. That lead held up until the Mustangs tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, and then extended the lead to 3-1 with a pair in the top of the sixth. However, that was short lived as Walton-Verona retook the lead at 4-3 with three runs in the home sixth. Not to be outdone Brossart plated four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead and then held on for the 7-5 win with Gebauer striking out the final two batters to face him to end it.

For the Mustangs Chase Pflum was 2-5 with a run scored. Nolan Verst 2-4 an rbi and run scored. Kori Embs 2-4 with a run scored. Hackworth was the MVP with the go-ahead rbis and a run scored. Morrison 1-4 and Clay Kramer 1-2 with a double and an rbi.Garrett Ahlbrand wsa 1-3 with a ribbie, and Tanner Verst had a hot bat with a pair of singles and a run scored in three appearances.

The Mustangs, winner of two games in two days, will be back at it at home on Wednesday when we take on Holmes at St. Mary in a NKAC Division II contest. The Mustangs improve to 3-7 and Walton-Verona falls to 1-2.

Correction - It was Jeremy Moran who came in in relief of Long and took the loss, not Tillery.
