March 3, 201511 yr Author I always believed that I had family from Irish descent, until a family member did the whole genealogy study and found out we were actually Scottish....boy was I on the wrong side of the ledger Many Scots originally settled in Scotland from Ireland way back when. The peoples share same gaelic culture and original language. However, things have become more complicated in modern times with the division between Protestants and Catholics and Scotlands relationship to Great Britain.
