What does Bath County need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Had this been posted a month ago the answer would have been different.

 

Schools have cycles of talent and the up-cycle has returned to the Wildcats. Bath County was returning a much older and deeper team than they have fielded in several years going back to the 06/07/08 seasons. 30 upperclassmen plus another 30 underclassmen to play JV ball. The JV team is coming off an undefeated season against several opponents now on the new varsity schedule. The incoming freshman class has been one of the best teams in northeast Kentucky (16th region area) throughout middle school. Even the 7th/8th grade middle school teams look to be very competitive with good numbers.

 

Now that the coaching position is open they must make a wise choice in their search. There is talent and depth on the team. The right coach really has a chance to make some noise next year in the district right off the bat and for some years to come.

Now that John Poynter has been named the coach you can look at the direction of the team. Poynter's teams play tough defense and I look for this years Bath County team to be no different. 15 incoming Seniors highlight the roster for Coach Poynter and he will rely heavily on them in his 1st season.

 

The Wildcats looked out of sorts at times last year against Garrard, Bourbon, and other more experienced teams. This season they are the much older, experienced team that, if Poynter gets them dialed in, will also be a much more physical and athletic team.

 

The new schedule and district alignment are both very favorful for Bath County. With Fleming and Lewis graduating nearly half of their teams, and old foes such as Morgan and Rowan back on the schedule, The Wildcats have a real chance to start Coach Poynter off with a winning season.

 

I predict a 7-3 regular season and a home playoff date with Pike Central.
