Its been said the competition in the area is down this year, especially in the 10th. My question is this. Why is the talent level down in baseball? Are the younger leagues not developing like they should? Are the coaches coaching in Little League just out there for their child? Let me know your thoughts.

Everybody is too worried about their child and being fair and having fun. Every team gets a trophy. Coaches coach only while their kid plays. Many coaches don't know anything about teaching kids. We used to have coaches who coached for 15-20 or more years. Now its 2 or 3 and done. Baseball is such a learning tool if it is used correctly. Kids don't have the work ethic they used to have and parents are not as committed to the programs.

I feel that one of the main problems, at least in eastern kentucky, is that some of the best athletes in schools are just not coming out for baseball. Most parents in the mountains get this big idea that their child is gonna be a big time basketball, or football star so they quit baseball after little league. Yet, how many D-1 basketball and football prospects are their this side of Louisville or Lexington? Very few. Ive seen many times where a kid who has alot of talent and is very good at baseball just gives it up so they can concentrate on basketball. Parents are going to have to start realizing that the potential to advance in baseball is much greater than in basketball or football and start encouraging their kids to play baseball.

Right on and I do believe the feeder programs have diminished in Ky over the past several years. I would like to see HS coaches take a lead role in local feeder programs statewide. I know some do but most aren't compensated enough to spend that time year round. I believe the school system has the best resources to facilitate the programs and should be the leaders in feeder programs, not just in baseball but in all sports. Money is always an issue but for the most part high school coaches are always on top of their respective sports and are the true authorities when it comes to operating successful programs from age 5 to 19. They should be utilized more and paid accordingly.
