2015 56th District Tournament Preview

Featured Replies

Site: Owsley County High School

1) Estill County (16-9):

The Engineers have defeated every team in the district by double digits at least once. The Engineers are taking a 3 game winning streak into the district tournament next week.

2) Powell County (12-15):

The Pirates were just 4-12 in December with 3 of those being at the beginning of the season. Powell County is riding a 3 game losing streak going into the district tournament but has defeated Owsley County, the team they will meet in the first round of the district tournament, twice this season. Powell County has won the district tournament 3 out of the last 4 years.

3) Owsley County (8-16):

Owsley County played #1 Estill County close in Irvine before falling to the Engineers 41-34 in a low scoring game. Owsley County is 1-4 in their last 5 games heading into the district tournament.

4) Lee County (1-25):

The Bobcats have struggled this whole season, in fact their only win was against Piarist School over in the Prestonsburg Holiday Tournament. Lee County has fell hard to Estill County 28 and 37 this season.

Players to Watch:

Trevor Jones (Estill County) is the best player in the district. Trevor leads Estill in scoring at 15.4 points per game. When he's on his game, he's hard to stop.

Caleb Bonny (Estill County) is a starting freshmen for the Engineers. Caleb is Estill's 2nd leading scorer 14.1 points per game. He's another player for the Engineers that's hard to stop.

Joe Benton (Estill County) is a 7th grader for the Engineers. Although he only averages 3 points per game, when he's on, he's on. His first ever career shot attempt was a made 3 pointer against Lee County in the first game of the season. He had double figures in scoring against Berea.

Michael Bishop (Estill County) is another player that averages double digits in scoring for the Engineers. He dropped in 31 including 5/6 from 3 point range in the 74-56 win over Berea.

Brad Smith (Powell County) always plays a big part for the Pirates, especially when the post season arrives.

Adrian Williams (Powell County) is one of the Pirates leading scorers this season.
