2015 54th District Tournament Preview

Featured Replies

Site: Perry County Central High School

Favorite: Perry County Central (19-10):

Although Hazard is the defending district champions and own a victory over favorite Perry County Central this season, Perry County Central will be the favorite as they have torn through everyone in the district including a thrashing over Hazard. Perry County Central comes into the district tournament at 4-1.

Close Behind: Buckhorn (17-8):

Arguably one of the best seasons in school history. The Wildcats come into the district tournament at 5-2 and own wins over Hazard and Leslie County. Buckhorn played Perry County Central close twice this season.

Coming in 3rd Hazard (12-13):

Hazard has been up and down all season this year which is truly surprising. Hazard comes into the district tournament at 2-3 and owns a victory over favorite, Perry County Central, a team they will meet in the first round of the district tournament.

Last Place: Leslie County (11-16):

Despite starting the season off 4-0, the Eagles have fallen on hard times in 2015, winning just 4 out of 13 games. Leslie County is 0-5 against district teams this season but has took Buckhorn to the limit twice.

Players to Watch:

Braxton Beverly (Perry County Central), much like Camron Justice of Knott County Central, Braxton Beverly is his teams’ go-to-guy, best player and one of the top 3 players in the 14th region. Braxton comes into the district tournament averaging 25.5 points per game, shooting 36.6% from 3.

Braxton Whitmore (Perry County Central) Breathitt County transfer is averaging 12 points a game for the Commodores .

Damon Tobler (Perry County Central) is another double digit scorer for the Commodores and is also the teams’ leading rebounder.

Connor Hoskins (Buckhorn) is one of the best pure shooters in the 14th region, you give him an inch of daylight and he’s gonna put it up and it’s more than likely gonna go in. Connor leads Buckhorn in scoring with 19.8 points per game. Connor is also the team’s leading rebounder at 10 boards per game.

Peyton Cooper (Buckhorn) although he is averaging 7.3 points per game he does shoot over 42% from the field and can go up and get it if he’s around the rim.

Ryan Boggs (Buckhorn) is the Wildcats 3rd leading scorer behind Connor Hoskins and Josh Crank.

Josh Crank (Buckhorn) is 2nd in scoring and 3rd in rebounding for Buckhorn. He plays a big part in Buckhorn’s success this season and years past.

Josh Bray (Leslie County) leads Leslie County in scoring with 15 points per game. He also averages 5 boards per game.

Trystan Collett (Leslie County) is 2nd in scoring for the Eagles. Trystan shoots 40% from 3 even though he’s only attempted a 3 5 times this season.
