12th Region Review 1/21/15

What a great week of basketball this past week was in the 12th Region. Lincoln County remains unbeaten in 12th Region play after a big win over rival Boyle County. Pulaski County knocks off Southwestern in a big cross-town rivalry match, and both Wayne County and Mercer County continue to get better as the season progresses with both having the regions longest winning streak at seven. This current week brings the All A classic which will have Somerset facing Danville for a chance to go to Frankfort to represent the 12th Region plus more district match-ups. Also, there are some good showcase games in the Toyota Classic and Joe B. Hall Classic that have 12th Region teams participating. Another good week in 12th Region basketball is expected.

12th Region Notes:

Jacob Conway had a big week for the Patriots. He had 19 points and 15 rebounds versus Pulaski, and scored 29 points and 10 rebounds versus Boyle County.

Payton Woods scored 33, 31, and 26 in Wayne County’s 3 victories last week.

Jeremiah Bell scored 35 points in Boyle County’s loss to Lincoln County.

Rashawn Jackson for East Jessamine is currently #8 in the state in free throw percentage shooting 86.0% from the line. Riley Hall for Pulaski County is not far behind shooting 84.2% from the line and currently #20.

Payton Woods and Trey Blevins are two of the state leaders in 3 point goals and both from Wayne County. Woods is #3 making 3.6 per game and Blevins is #10 making 3.2 per game. Hayden Smith from east Jessamine is also on the list at #5 making 3.5 three pointers per game.

Southwestern is currently #7 in the state in team scoring averaging 75.3 points per game. Fellow 48th district rival Wayne County is right behind them at #9 averaging 73.8 points per game.

Mercer County sits at #8 in the state in field goal percentage averaging 52.6% from the field.

Try not to foul Rockcastle County or Lincoln County because as a team they are #11 and #14 respectively in the state in free throw percentage. Rockcastle is shooting 72.8% from the line while Lincoln is shooting 72.2%.

Somerset sits at #13 in the state in team rebounding averaging 35.3 rebounds per game. Wayne County is #18 averaging 34.2.

I'd put West Jessamine above Pulaski, but other than that, solid ranks. West at Mercer on the 23rd is going to be a good one, probably will decide the winner of the 46th.

Also, East Jessamine's Hayden Smith set a career-high with 40 points vs. Madison Southern on Monday. He's averaging 30 points a game in the last nine games (since Cam Jones left the team).

The next 3 weeks could tell the tale for SW. They have next 5 on the road at McCreary Central Jan 22, at West Jessamine Jan 27th, at Wayne Jan 30, at Lincoln Feb 2, at Casey Feb 3. Sw finally back home Feb 10th vs Boyle Co. SW finishes it off with Pulaski at home, Somerset on the road and Mercer at home.

Tough call on who to put 2nd - Boyle or Wayne? Also, as was mentioned, I expect Mercer and West to be a dog fight on Friday. Both teams seem to be playing better and better as the season progresses.

I would definitely put West above Pulaski, even before Pulaski's loss to Casey last night. They are considerably better than most give them credit for.
