Team's strength of schedule

Malibu.... here is the difference. Ohio has over 700 schools, so the Cleveland and Cincy privates can play each other, other top Ohio teams, or schedule outside the state. Kentucky has only 221 teams in 6 classes, so IMO they have a more limited selection as to who they play. Example,

NCC having to play (and they have for the last several yeras) 3-4-5 Class 6A schools. But in KY, that does not matter, because only their District 3 or 4 games matter. So you could go 3-0 in your district, lose all 7 other games, and be # 1 seed with a 3-7 record. (happened a couple years ago with Campbell County. Hard for me to understand a system where not all the games count. And a system that allows 0-10, 1-9 teams in the playoffs. I believe if they reduced the number of Classes, yes you may have the same "quality" programs continuing to win titles, but it would afford teams the opportunity to play more games against teams in their class. No reason why a 2A team should have to "fill" almost half their schedule with 6A teams. I know NCC has had success against NoKy 6A teams in the past, but is that because NCC was that good, or the 6A teams were crappy. I would venture to say, if a 2A school had the opportunity to play mostly 2A schools during the regular season, they would prefer to do so.

Bottom line: the regular season in KY means NOTHING. 87% of the teams make the playoffs (even if they do not win a game). I believe having fewer classes affords teams a bigger choice of playing schools their size, and would make for more competitive regular season games.
