2014-15 Kentucky High School Basketball Preview - 14th Region

Featured Replies

1) Knott County Central: The Patriots are 3x defending 14th region tournament and have advanced to the second round 2 of the 3 state tournament appearances. With the Patriots returning everyone, they are the preseason favorite to win the 14th region and making it back to the state tournament.

2) Perry County Central: Even though the Commodores lost big man Justin Johnson they do return one of the top 2 players in the region in Braxton Beverly and will give the Patriots fights like they have in the past.

3) Hazard: The Bulldogs lost most of their scoring from last season but never count out coach Al Holland when it comes to post season.

4) Buckhorn: The Wildcats return everyone from a year ago and will be a force in the region but will have to upset either Perry Central or Hazard in order to get to the regional tournament.

5) Cordia: If the Lions get to play this season, they will make some noise as they have since coach Rhodes arrived in Lotts Creek.

6) Breathitt County: Even though the Bobcats lost majority of their scoring from last season they will still be the favorite to win the 55th district make another appearance in the 14th region tournament.

7) Letcher County Central: The Cougars lost two of their main scorers from last season in Chippy Frazier and Josh Owens but return big man Zane Blair who sat out last season.

8) Leslie County: The Eagles return their top 9 players from a year ago but much like Buckhorn, they will have to upset either Perry Central or Hazard or possibly Buckhorn to get to the regional tournament.

9) Wolfe County: The Wolves lost most of their scoring but return deadly shooter in Bradley Lawson.

10) Estill County: The Engineers lost 3 of their starting lineup but return one of the top players in the region in guard Trevor Jones.

11) Powell County: The Pirates will have a hard time scoring as they lost everyone from last season and have a new head coach.

12) Lee County: The Bobcats lost most of their scoring from last season but will still have a chance to make it to the regional tournament.

13) Jackson City: The Tigers won 12 games last season and will be looking to upset either Wolfe or Breathitt to make it to the regional tournament this season, a place they haven’t been to since 2008.

14) Owsley County: The Owls have had a few bad years here recently but they still get the best out of their players. Owsley County is under a new direction in head coach Noah Noble.

15) June Buchanan: The Crusaders will have a tough time upsetting Knott Central, Cordia or Letcher Central in order to make it to the regional tournament.

16) Jenkins: The Cavaliers will be in the same boat as June Buchanan when it comes to making it to the regional tourney.

17) Riverside Christian: The Rams are hoping that 2014/15 will be a better season than years past.

14th Region Player Rankings:

1. Camron Justice, Knott Central: Camron is the main horse that makes this Patriots team go and it will be the same this coming season.

2. Braxton Beverly, Perry Central: Braxton is one of the best ball handlers in the region and knows how to put the ball in the basket when he needs too. He will be the main person the Commodores turn too this season.

3. Evan Hall, Knott Central: Best big man in the region and knows what to do with the basketball once he receives the ball on the inside.

4. Connor Hoskins, Buckhorn: Very well guard who can knock it down from 3 in a hurry. He’s also one of the region’s best overall players.

5. Griffin Wells, Hazard: Wells will be one of Hazard’s go to guys this coming season.

6. Simon Christon, Knott Central: He’s not Camron Justice nor Evan Hall but he knows how to put the ball in the basket.

7. Damon Tobler, Perry Central: Not as big as Justin Johnson but Damon is a big body that can leave bruises on defenders.

8. Peyton Cooper, Buckhorn: Peyton, a 5-10 senior will be the one that runs this Buckhorn offense.

9. Trevor Jones, Estill County: Trevor, a multi-sport athlete will be the main horse that runs this Estill County team.

10. Luke Chaney, Breathitt County: Depending on how the Bobcats will do will depend on how Luke improves his skills.

Will KCC find success at Rupp like the Shelby Valley team that went as seniors?
