Another autumn of Rams

RACELAND With a district title on the line, the Raceland defense was not messing around.

 

Connor Messer and company held Paintsville to 111 total yards as the Rams blanked the Tigers, 32-0, to win the Class A, District 7 crown on Friday night at Ram Stadium.

 

Paintsville entered the contest averaging 262 yards a game but fell victim to Raceland’s swarming defense.

 

Raceland recorded its third shutout of the season and allowed a total of only six points the last two weeks against the talented offenses of Fairview and Paintsville.

 

Raceland coach Michael Salmons said his defense has been firing on all cylinders since the second game of the season.

 

"I can’t say enough about what Coach (Mark) Lewis and Coach (Gary) Fannin do all the way down to the last defensive coach," Salmons said. "Going into the season, we knew we had some questions on our front seven. We knew our secondary was very talented.

 

They corrected a lot of mistakes we make. ... Since the second half of the Ashland game, our defense has played lights out all year long. If we can do that six more times, we have a chance to play through December."
