Lawnboy13 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 NewCath gave a great showing in games 1 & 3 with a great team effort, but "laid an egg" in game 2. Game 1 Tates Creek 25-18 - The Breds took a series of 3 pt. leads (8-5,10-7, & 17-14) thanks to the play of So. Rachel McDonald, but after the 17-14 NewCath advantage the Lady Commodores went on an 11 to 1 run to closeout the 1st game. Game 2 Tates Creek 25-8 - 6'-2" Sr. Kendall Beerman of Tates Creek put on an "absolute clinic":ylsuper:, as the Lady Commodores raced out to a 17-4 lead and never looked back. Admittedly, I have not seen a lot of volleyball, but this young lady absolutely "punishes" the ball on both serves and spikes......LORD HAVE MERCY!!!!! Game 3 Tates Creek 25-20 - The Breds race out to a 4-0 lead only to see the Lady Commodores tie things up at 4. It's tied at 8-8, then the Breds get 3 straight before things get all knotted up at 12's. The Breds get 5 pt. leads at 17-12 & 20-15, before Tates Creek draws within 1 at 20-19. NewCath gets a 23-20 lead, but then Kendall Beerman serves out the next 5 pts. for the Lady Commodores comeback. It doesn't get any easier for the Breds as they travel to Louisville on Monday to take on the #1 team in the state, and depending on which rankings you look at, the #1 team in the country in Louisville Mercy.

Good hunting.
Lawnboy13 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 NewCath did a great job of staying competitive in games 1 & 3 against the much taller Lady Commodores. Besides Kendall Beerman, they have only one other senior on the roster, and I don't think she starts.....this team is going to be very good the next couple of years. I believe it was So. Doris Carter, but this girl could get off the floor and hit with authority as well.

Good hunting. Unfortunately, Monday is my long day at work, so I will not be in attendance to give updates. Saw the NewCath/Mercy games last year at Mercy, very nice facilities. I'm told Mercy had a conflict and asked if NewCath could come down to play again this year (was supposed to be at NewCath this year).
VBallBlue Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Mercy beat Assumption tonight 3-1 25-23, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23. Tough to beat anybody three times--won't have to see the Rockets again until--knock on wood--the state finals. Looked like Elpers for AHS was hurting and didn't play much if at all in the last sets. However, they seemed to play better without her as others stepped up their play. Their back row defense was again outstanding. Not sure about why they couldn't travel to NewCath, but it might have something to do with their fall break next week--bus driver out of town?? I'll be at the game Monday and will post some scores if I can get a signal in that gym. The cell tower seemed to be overloaded tonight.
